14 government schools in Chandigarh to have robotics laboratory

In a first, the UT Education Department is planning to set up a robotics laboratory in 14 government schools to provide hands-on learning and promote critical thinking among students.
For the establishment of the lab, an outlay of Rs 91 lakh in each of the clusters was approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE) at a meeting of the Project Approval Board.
Each lab will have a robot kit to help students understand the practical concept of science and maths by using the “learning-by-doing approach” where students will be facilitated with hands-on experiments. The lab will also have DIY circuit kits to help students understand basic laws circuits in physics and a programming kit that will help them shuffle their thoughts in various sectors of robotics and help find its applications through programming skills and coding.
A mechanical construction set will be an add-ons to the DIY kits, which will help students move on to the next level. Students will be able to physically see and observe designs made by them over the CAD software with the help of a 3D printer and pen. Another feature in the lab will be mechanical fabrication tools to help students fabricate their designs with the help of pliers, tools, clamps and hacksaws. Safety equipment will be kept in the lab to ensure safety during project making and prototyping.
Earlier, six “Atal Tinkering Labs”, a flagship initiative of the Atal Innovation Mission, Government of India, to cultivate an innovative mindset among high school students, were being set up in government schools of Chandigarh.
