14 bovines smuggled in oil tanker rescued
Tightening the noose on bovine smugglers, Kathua police rescued 14 bovines at the truck terminal in Lakhanpur from an oil tanker. The smugglers were carrying the bovine animals inside the oil tanker to deceive the police stationed in the area.
An official informed that a team from Lakhanpur police station during checking duty near Lakhanpur truck terminal area noticed the movement of a suspicious oil tanker bearing registration number JK03E-5451, which was coming from Punjab side towards Srinagar.
When the driver was signalled to stop for checking, he stopped the vehicle away from the checking point and managed to flee. During checking, 14 bovines were found loaded in the vehicle mercilessly, who were rescued and the vehicle was seized.
A case has been registered at Lakhanpur under Sections 223/BNS, 11/PCA act while further investigation into this matter has been set into motion. An official spokesperson said, “Kathua Police is striving hard and taking every possible step to curb bovine smuggling. If any person has any information regarding any such activity, they can share it with police. We assure that your identity shall be kept confidential”.
