A total of 13,306 farmers in Karnal district have registered for crop residue management on 1,42,598 acres, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.

The state government, under its initiative to combat stubble burning and promote eco-friendly practices, is offering an incentive of Rs 1,000 per acre to farmers adopting these measures.

Farmers have expressed enthusiasm for ex-situ management, with 8,842 farmers registering to manage paddy stubble on 98,087 acres. Ex-situ management involves the removal of crop residue for use in alternative applications such as biofuel production. Notably, 2,154 farmers have registered to supply stubble from 21,703 acres to the 2G ethanol plant, a step toward reducing stubble burning and promoting renewable energy.

He said that this season, the district recorded 93 cases of stubble burning while last year till November 21, the district recorded 122 cases.

Dr Singh said that they would verify the claims of the farmers after October 30. The government gives an incentive of Rs 1,000 per acre for adopting stubble management system and not burning stubble.
