13,187 nominations filed for panchayat elections in Jalandhar district

Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal on Saturday said the district administration had received 13,187 nomination papers for the upcoming panchayat elections. Among these, 10,156 nominations were filed for the post of panch, while 3,031 candidates are vying for the post of sarpanch. There are 945 villages in the district.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers was conducted on Saturday. The deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations is October 7 by 3 pm. Polling is scheduled to be held on October 15. Voting would be held from 8 am to 4 pm.

Dr Aggarwal emphasised that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. He assured the public that adequate security measures were in place to maintain law and order. He asserted that no individual would be allowed to disrupt the electoral process. He also reviewed arrangements across polling stations to conduct elections. Counting of votes would start immediately after culmination of the voting.
