Infections surpass 13K mark in Ludhiana

12 succumb, most victims aged 60-78 years

Covid-19 claimed 12 lives in the district and infected 256 persons today. The positive cases have crossed the 13,000 mark in the district.

Of the 256 positive cases reported today, 55 patients with influenza-like illness reported at flu corners. Thirtyseven cases emerged during contact tracing. As many as 80 patients were identified at OPDs.

The fresh infections include 13 healthcare workers, two policemen, two pregnant women and one undertrial. Two patients are suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI).

Most deceased were in the age group of 60-78 years. They belonged to SBS Nagar, Janetpura, Sherpur Chowk area, Gurdev Nagar, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Dalip Singh Nagar in Khanna, Partap Singh Wala, Khanna, Ram Nagar Mundian, Issa Nagar and Model Town in Ludhiana.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said a total of 558 persons from the district had died of Covid. As many as 18 persons, including 12 from Ludhiana district and six from other districts or states, succumbed to the virus here today.

According to information, 5,260 samples were collected today. A total of 13,010 cases have been logged in the district to date. Of them, 10,633 patients (81.73%) have recovered.

Ludhiana city sub-division has been badly hit by the pandemic. A total of 11,570 cases and 495 deaths have been reported in the city. In other sub-divisions, 442 cases and 14 deaths were reported at Jagraon, 193 cases and five deaths at Raikot, 399 cases and 25 fatalities at Khanna, 176 infections and nine deaths at Samrala, and 230 cases and 10 deaths in Payal.
