Yamunanagar, August 12

The police have registered a case against 12 people for allegedly damaging the embankment of the Som river at Rukali village in an attempt to change the course of water, after a breach occurred in the river embankment on Sunday.

A case has been registered against Pradeep, Vijaypal, Chhatarpal, Kala, Nanha, Gurdyal, Salinder, Anil, Chunni Lal, Amir Chand, Omprakash and Vijay for damaging the embankment.

Sahdev Dagar, SDO, Irrigation Department, told the police that he received a complaint that some people had damaged the embankment of the Som river due to which hundreds of acres of standing crops and green fodder was inundated. The complaint was found to be true during inspection.

The SDO said there was a breach of around 450 feet in the embankment of the Som river due to which water entered in 10 villages. He said the suspects had damaged the embankment to change the course of water. The water level had receded and efforts were on to plug the breach, he said. — TNS
