1,188 farmers come forward for management of crop residue in Jhajjar
The number of farmers who are showing interest in the paddy stubble management scheme in Jhajjar district is gradually increasing.
Under the scheme, farmers are given an incentive amount of Rs 1,000 per acre.
"While 1,188 farmers of the district have applied to take advantage of this scheme for a total of about 12,315 acres of agricultural land so far this year, 1,075 farmers had got themselves registered under the scheme last year," said Shakti Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jhajjar.
“In order to prevent air pollution, we are not only making farmers aware of stubble management and its benefits but also motivating them to adopt this scheme to get an incentive. The officers concerned have been instructed to work in the field for the purpose. Village-wise teams of agriculture officials have been formed to educate farmers about the ill-effects of stubble burning and benefits of crop residue management,” said the DC.
He said that the nodal officers of the block and village-level teams had been instructed to carry out regular monitoring in collaboration with the police department to check the burning of crop residue. Farmers can apply on the portal through the CAAC Centre to take advantage of this scheme.
Dr Jitendra Singh Ahlawat, Deputy Director (Agriculture), said equipment was also being made available to the farmers by the government for the management of crop residue. “By doing this, many farmers have increased their income while contributing towards keeping the air clean,” he added.
