11-yr-old sexually assaulted by self-defence instructor
An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a self-defence instructor at a school in Sultanpuri area of Delhi, the police said on Friday. The police have arrested the accused identified as Satish (45).
An officer said the accused used to undertake self-defence classes at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Sultanpuri free of cost through an NGO. It also said the accused was not a regular teacher in the school.
The police received a complaint regarding sexual harassment by a schoolteacher on Friday. The girl reported that she was touched inappropriately by the teacher.
After taking the statement, the police registered a case under Sections 74 (outraging modesty) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 10 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The officer said counselling and a medical examination were being conducted for the victim. The child’s father recounted, “I received a call from my daughter using someone else’s phone. She was crying and said, ‘My karate teacher touched me inappropriately and also threatened me.’”
The family, demanding action from the school authorities, approached the principal. However, the father said the school denied the allegations.
“We went to the principal, but she defended the teacher. We want the principal to take action. The teacher must be punished, and the principal should be suspended for supporting that teacher,” the father added.
