11 farmers booked for stubble-burning in Amritsar
After the Supreme Court has taken a serious view of the Punjab and Haryana governments’ “failure” to take action against farmers indulging in stubble-burning, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney and SSP Rural Charanjit Singh on Thursday visited various villages to check the menace.
The DC issued strict instructions to the officials concerned for showing negligence. She said they would face legal action in accordance with the recent guidelines of the Air Quality Management Commission (AQMC).
The DC and SSP visited Mehlanwala, Adliwal, Jagdev Kalan, Mallu Nangal, Sahisra, Rajasansi and Harsha China villages and summoned the fire brigade teams.
“No laxity will be tolerated and all individuals concerned, including officials, will be held accountable for any violation of the directives issued by the Supreme Court, National Green Tribunal and the AQMC,” she said.
She appealed to the farmers to contact the helpline number 0183-222 9125 for stubble-management assistance.
ADC Jyoti Bala also visited Jandiala, Dheere Kot, Wadala Johal, Amarjot and Bamha Gehri villages, and instructed officials to take strict action against farmers indulging in stubble-burning.
