11 dengue, 40 diarrhoea cases reported in Jalandhar since January

Eleven cases of dengue had been reported from January to July this year in Jalandhar. Of the total 11 dengue cases, seven cases were reported in January only while two in May and one each in June and July.
A total of 255 dengue larvae have been found at various places since January. Today alone, 21 dengue larvae were found in Jalandhar — 9 urban and 12 rural. Two chikungunya cases have also been reported. Surveys have been conducted at over 2 lakh houses by health teams.
However, winters have seen dengue cases for the past many years. Last year, 172 cases of dengue had been reported in Jalandhar.
As many as 60 teams had also been deployed by the Health Department in July. The MC had also issued 23 notices to residents to check the breeding of larvae and dengue.
Assistant Health Officer, MC, Jalandhar, Shrikishan Sharma said, “Fogging began this year as early as June. Teams are visiting areas daily. Our teams are advising people to be cautious and prevent accumulation of water in coolers or utensils on their premises. In areas like Urban Estate, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar and Model Town, larvae have been often seen in coolers. In slum areas, water storage drums are the breeding spots of dengue larvae. People are being regularly asked to prevent the breeding of larvae.”
With diarrhoea cases just beginning to subside in Kapurthala, the Health Department and MC in Jalandhar have become proactive to keep the disease at bay. As many as 40 diarrhoea cases and three cholera cases had been reported in the district in July. In Kapurthala many lives were lost due to the outbreak of diarrhoea.
