Muktsar: 11 cops injured in road mishap
Muktsar, January 27
As many as 11 police personnel got injured when the police bus they were travelling in collided with a “stationed” truck near Charewan village on Muktsar-Kotkapura Road in dense fog this morning.
Meanwhile, a police getaway vehicle coming behind also collided into the bus. A motorcyclist also got injured in the mishap.
An injured ASI said that 21 policemen travelling in the bus were going from Muktsar to Jalandhar to attend the Chief Minister’s ‘Sadak Surakhya Force’ programme when the accident occurred.
Muktsar SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena reached the spot and inquired about the well-being of injured policemen at the local Civil Hospital.
The truck belonged to a gurdwara and was pressed into ‘kar sewa’. After the police bus hit the truck, it rammed into a roadside tree and got partially damaged. The truck driver escaped unhurt. The police have registered a case against him. The driver, however, claimed that the truck was moving and the police bus hit his vehicle from behind.
Later, a number of ‘nihangs’ lodged a protest outside Muktsar Sadar police station and condemned the police action against the truck driver. Thereafter, the truck driver was released on bail.
