10 kg heroin seized, four arrested
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have busted a gang involved in drug smuggling. Four persons hailing from Ferozepur were arrested and 10 kg heroin seized from their possession.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said this was in continuation with an arrest made a week ago when 1 kg heroin and Rs 4 lakh drug money was seized from Shinda Singh of Chak Bhangowala village in Ferozepur.
The Jalandhar CIA Staff team had apprehended Shinda while patrolling in the area. An FIR was registered against him under Sections 21C and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Sharma said four more accused of the same gang had now been arrested and 10 kg heroin seized from them. Those arrested were identified as Harjinder Pal Singh, Veer Singh, Surmukh Singh and Malook Singh. Sharma said all accused were involved in cross-border smuggling of heroin and were linked to Pakistan-based smugglers and handlers.
They used hi-tech gadgets, including drones, to smuggle heroin from Pakistan, he added. The CP said Harjinder Pal Singh already had an FIR against him and he was released from the jail in 2022. The accused was in contact with the Pakistan army and handlers, including Riyast Dogger, with whom he communicated using international numbers.
All other accused also have criminal record. They had been involved in drug trade since long. Further investigation into the case was still on, he added.
