10 fatalities push toll to 178

It is the fourth consecutive day that 10 persons who were Covid positive have lost their lives in a single day. The case fatality rate (CFR) in the district is 3 per cent which is more than the total CFR of the state, which is 2 per cent. Today, 280 persons tested positive while 10 lost their lives. Four new micro- containment zones were declared today, making the total number of zones to 20.
Those who lost their lives today include an ASI who was posted at the Police Lines for the past six months. He was tested positive on July 26 and was referred to the PGI on August 7 and lost his life today. A 27-year-old male suffering from down syndrome also succumbed today. He was admitted to Deep Hospital and belonged to Harcharan Nagar. A 90-year-old also succumbed to the virus. He was diabetic, hypertensive and was also a heart patient. He was admitted to Deep Hospital and belonged to Karnail Singh Nagar.
Others who lost their lives were between the age group of 50-70 years and belong to Jassian, Khanna, Basant Avenue, Payal, Chandan Nagar and Malakpur. All had co-morbidities and were patients of diabetes and hypertension.
Those who tested positive today include 91 from the flu corner, 77 were contacts of positive persons, 35 were reported from the OPD, 14 police personnel, 10 health care workers, six pregnant women and a domestic traveller.
352 sent to home quarantine on Monday
Till date, 25,622 persons have been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons is 4,896. Today, 352 persons were sent for home quarantine.
The new containment zones declared today are at Dhandari Kalan, Samelpura village, Sham Singh Road, Heavenly Palace, Doraha, and Bhumdi village.
Health Dept teams visit automobile showrooms
Meanwhile, continuing the awareness drive to tackle coronavirus in the region, mass media teams of the Health Department today visited automobile showrooms to ensure that they follow all protocols to keep themselves and their customers safe from the pandemic.
Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga said three teams had been deployed to work on awareness regarding the Covid-19 where they were apprising people about all preventive measures and also telling them to stay away from fake news and rumours and rely on the COVA app. Besides, the teams are also telling the owners to make adequate arrangements to check temperature of each and every person before entering the showrooms.
“Hand-sanitising point or hand washing arrangement should be made at every entry point. Hand-washing techniques were demonstrated to them by the teams. Also, instructions were given to mark social distancing stickers at different places in the showrooms,” said a member of the mass media wing.
Owners were also told to sanitise their vehicles after every customer’s visit and also sanitise their surfaces, tables and chairs to stop the spread of the virus from one person to another.
