1.1L MT paddy arrives in Fatehgarh Sahib

Nearly 1.1 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy has arrived at all 32 procurement centres set up in the district so far.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind, while talking to the media at the Sirhind grain market, said of the 1.1 lakh MT, 99,000 MT has been procured and 19,000 metric tonnes of procured paddy has been lifted. Besides, a payment of Rs 187.58 crore has been made to the farmers.

The DC visited various grain markets to take stock of the procurement and lifting of procured paddy. She said 41,586 MT of paddy has been purchased by Pugrain, 24,495 MT by Markfed, 19,473 MT by Punsup, 11,430 MT by warehouse, 1,368 MT by FCI, while 31 MT of paddy has been purchased by private traders.

She said the officials of various procurement agencies have been directed to speed up the process of lifting paddy produce, so that unsold paddy does not pile up in the markets. She also issued directions to ensure that the payment of procured paddy is made as per the directions of the government. Assuring farmers that every grain of paddy would be procured, the DC also appealed to the farmers to bring paddy produce as per the specifications to avoid harassment.
