Election LIVE updates: TMC leader killed in violence in Bengal; brisk polling in Wayanad

Voting for 43 Assembly seats in Jharkhand commenced on Wednesday with a total of 683 candidates trying their luck, including former CM Champai Soren and ex-MP Geeta Kora. Polling began around 7 am in these constituencies across 15 districts and will continue till 5 pm.

Voting is also underway for bypolls to Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha seat and Chelakkara Assembly constituency, three Assembly segments in Karnataka, seven Assembly seats in Rajasthan, six Assembly seats in West Bengal, five Assembly seats in Assam and four Assembly seats in Bihar.

Meanwhile, tension brewed in West Bengal after a Trinamool Congress leader, who was severely injured in a shootout at Jagatdal adjacent to Naihati Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district, died in the hospital.

For Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, there are 16 candidates in the fray with Congress-led UDF's candidate and Rahul Gandhi's sister Priyanka Gandhi, who is making her electoral debut, CPI(M)-led LDF's Sathyan Mokeri and BJP-led NDA's Navya Haridas being the top contenders.

Bypolls to Budhni and Vijaypur Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, Raipur City South in Chhattisgarh, Vav Assembly seat in Gujarat's Banaskantha and Gambegre Assembly seat in Meghalaya are also underway.

Assam bypoll: 64 per cent voting in 5 assembly seats till 3 pm

Rajasthan: Independent candidate for Deoli-Uniara bypoll slaps election official

Independent candidate for the Deoli-Uniara Assembly bypoll allegedly slapped a Sub-Divisional Officer engaged in election duty on Wednesday as area magistrate, officials said. Voting for the bypolls to seven Assembly seats in Rajasthan is underway with close to 25 per cent of votes cast till 11 am. The counting of votes will be held on November 23. Naresh Meena, a Congress rebel contesting as an Independent, allegedly caught the Sub-Divisional Officer of Malpura, Amit Chaudhary, by his collar and slapped him, an official said. District election officer and Tonk Collector Saumya Jha said the residents of Samravta village had announced the bypoll boycott.
