Karnal, February 23
The state government has given its nod to construction of the second phase of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) at a cost of Rs 358 crore.
A 225-bed mother and childcare hospital, 50-bed trauma centre, multi-storey parking lot, hostels for both boys and girls, lecture theatre centre, examination hall, sports ground and residential quarters will come up over 10 acres in place of the old record room and old court. At present, the KCGMC has a 450-bed hospital.
“We have received the state government’s permission to build the second phase of the hospital. The detailed project report is being prepared by the Haryana Police Housing Corporation and we are hopeful it will be finalised soon after which work will be allotted. Construction will be completed in two years once it starts,” said KCGMC Director Dr Jagdish Dureja.
With starting of the mother and childcare wing, pregnant mother and newborns will get special care. The new trauma centre will deal with emergency and critically-ill patients, he said. “Due to heavy patient rush in OPD hours, a multi-storey parking lot will be built for vehicles of doctors, staff and patients,” said the Director.
