The condition of the 35-km Palampur-Panchrukhi-Jaisinghpur road which falls in the category of major district roads has gone from bad to worse in the past three years. The road has virtually turned into a dirt track.
The road is full of potholes. Several accidents have taken place on this road. Despite repeated complaints to the PWD, no steps have been initiated to initiate repair work.
At present this road is being maintained by the Palampur and Jaisinghpur divisions of the PWD. The six-km stretch falls in the jurisdiction of Palampur division of PWD while 29-km road is maintained by Jaisinghpur division.
MR Rana, Executive Engineer, PWD division Palampur, said only six-km stretch of the road was under his jurisdiction. As renewal of the road is due after two years there was no plan to resurface it. However, potholes would be filled up. Likewise, Executive Engineer Jaisinghpur said he had already started the repair work.
Ashish Butail, Congress MLA from Palampur, said he had taken up the matter with the PWD officials a number of times, but all in vain.
