Amlala (Dera Bassi), November 23
A concrete bridge constructed by villagers by rendering ‘kar sewa’ on the Ghaggar river was thrown open for the general public by baba Mast Diwana Bulley Shah of Gharawan village today. Accompanied by his followers, baba reached at the site early in the morning and opened the concrete bridge (450 ft long and 24 ft wide, constructed at a cost of Rs 11.32 crores in last three years) for general public.

The members of Amlala Gurdwara Management Committee also organised Akhand Paath and a community kitchen (langar) on the occasion.

Besides Manpreet Kaur Dolly, local leader and daughter of former Punjab Finance Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh, scores of area residents and baba followers also attended the inaugural ceremony of the bridge.

The residents of the area have constructed the bridge on the Ghaggar River. The bridge, connecting Amlala village (Dera Bassi) with Karala village in Banur, has reduced the distance between Dera Bassi and Banur drastically.

The nine-span bridge has been given respite to the residents of over 60 villages of Banur and Dera Bassi, besides thousands of commuters.

A member of the Village Gurdwara Management Committee, Balihar Singh Balli, said the bridge would later be handed over to the department concerned. Proper procedure will be followed, said Balli.
