Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a gathering at Madison Square Garden in New York on SundayAmerica has not quite seen a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi in recent history. Nor has the million strong Indian diaspora. On a balmy Sunday morning they came in thousands to the Madison Square Garden stadium, standing patiently for hours to get in. By the time Modi arrived, the stadium was packed to its capacity of 20,000. Only Indian film stars command that kind of fan following.

PIO cardholders will get lifetime visa: PM
New York, September 28
 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today told a rapturous crowd of NRIs that Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders will get lifetime Indian visa and that American tourists will be given visa on arrival. Modi, who arrived at the packed Madison Square Garden to a rousing welcome, said: “PIO cardholders have a lot of visa issues. To combat that, we have decided they will get life-long visas. Further, the PIO and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) schemes will be combined.”

Justice Dattu sworn in as CJI

Justice HL Dattu, who has been heading the Bench monitoring probe into the 2G scam, was today sworn in as the new Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee. He will have a tenure of 14 months.
