City gets another train to Ludhiana
Ludhiana, September 1 According to railway officials, the festival special pair of trains (04417/04418) will run daily between Ludhiana and Chandigarh from September 1 to November 15, 2014, making, in all, 152 trips. The train will leave Ludhiana at 9 am and reach Chandigarh at 12.10 pm. On the return journey, it will depart from Chandigarh at at 1 pm and arrive Ludhiana at 3.25 pm. The train will have halts at Dhandari Kalan, Sahnewal, Lall Kalan, Samrala, Khamano, New Morinda, Kharar and Mohali. Another festival special trains introduced by the railways to operate from September 1 to November 15, 2014, through Ludhiana is 04403/04404 tri-weekly train from Anand Vihar (New Delhi) to Udhampur. It will leave Anand Vihar at 9 pm on every Monday, Thursday and Saturday and reach Udhampur at 11.35 am. From Udhampur, the train will depart at 2.35 pm every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday and reach Anand Vihar at 6 am. The Anand Vihar-Udhampur Festival special train will have stoppages at Ghaziabad, Meerut City, Sharanpur, Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jalandhar Cantt, Pathankot and Jammu Tawi stations. In addition to festival special trains, the Northern Railway authorities have introduced several new trains in the revised time table to take effect from September 1, 2014, to provide more connectivity to Katra, the base camp for Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and several other major cities. Among the new trains, which would commence their commercial run later this month and pass through the city, are 22923/24 Katra-Bandra Terminus (premium express weekly), 22313/14 Katra-Sealdah (premium express weekly), 22679/80 Katra-Yeswantpur (Karnataka) premium express weekly, 19415/16 Katra-Ahmedabad (express weekly), 15655/56 Katra-Kamakhya (Assam) express weekly, 22921/22 Amritsar-Bandra Terminus (premium express weekly), 22125/26 Amritsar-Nagpur (AC express weekly), 15531/32 Amritsar-Saharsa (jansadharan weekly), 14611/12 Amritsar-Gorakhpur (express weekly), 14613/14 Chandigarh-Ferozepur (express daily), 22941/42 Jammu-Indore (express weekly and 14155/56 Jammu-Kanpur (express bi-weekly ). Three vehicles damaged in pile-up at Dera Bassi
Dera Bassi, September 1 He further said, “I had purchased my car a month ago.” Sukhvinder, Indica driver alleged that driver of Endeavor was talking on the phone while driving. Endeavor driver Hemant however denied all allegations. This led to a traffic jam for 15 minutes on the flyover.The police reached the spot and cleared the flyover. Youth killed at paper mill
Dera Bassi, September 1 The deceased was working with the mill as a helper and was on night duty on Sunday. Family members of the deceased, including his mother Santosh and sisters Roma and Baby, along with labourers, assembled outside the local police station and lodged a protest this afternoon. The protesters alleged that the youth was a helper, but the mill authorities assigned him duty at a machine. He was unaware of the functioning of the machine. Hence, met with the accident, they claimed. All happened due to the negligence of the authorities, they alleged. The mill management destroyed the evidence from the spot without informing the police about the mishap, alleged the mother of the deceased. The irate labourers have demanded a probe in the case and sought action against the guilty. The deceased is a member of a family of migrants, living in a brick-kiln owned by Kuldeep Singh in Mubarakpur. However, Ram Kumar, manager of the mill, said the victim started working at a machine without permission and met with the accident. Later, Station house officer Gurjit Singh said the police had started inquest proceedings in the case as the family members of the deceased had denied any negligence on part of the mill authorities. They also refused to pursue the case further. “If the family members move a formal complaint against the mill authorities, the police will investigate the matter,” he said. |

Chandigarh, September 1 Complainant Manjit Kaur said that WWICS limited informed her that it had launched an Arranged Employment Opinion Programme for Canada for professionally trained workers and technically qualified professionals in various trades and occupations. She alleged that after mock interview and on seeing the relevant documents and experience Thereafter, on the advice of WWICS, she submitted all the requisite documents as demanded and needed for assessing her case along with requisite fee. But nothing was done to get her application processed so she sought refund of the fee. WWICS denying deficiency in services accused the complainant of concealing facts. It said that as per the agreement, the professional fee charged by WWICS was not refundable. They said that the Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act became law on June 29, 2012, for imigration to Canada and the complainant was affected by the provision, thus her application was terminated by law. She was then intimated that the fee would be returned in the form of a cheque. It said that in July 2013 the visa processing fee was refunded to the complainant. “We feel that WWICS did not take prompt action on the application for imigration filed by the complainant and sent an incomplete case to the Canadian High Commission and did not intimate the complainant about the action being taken by them on her application and failed to reply her application seeking refund of the total fee. Therefore, all these acts/omissions point out towards the negligence and deficiency in service on the part of WWICS resulting in harassment and mental agony to the complainant,” ruled the forum. The forum also directed WWICS Limited to pay Rs 11,000 as cost of litigation. |

Chandigarh, September 1 One held for thrashing youth Manoj Kumar, a resident of Colony No.4, Phase1, Industrial Area, alleged that Sahid, Aman, Lucky, Anil, Sonu, Rahul and others, thrashed and threatened him on August 27. He got injured and was admitted to GMCH-32. A case has been registered against all the accused at the Industrial Area police station. One of the accused, Anil Kumar, has been arrested in the case. Hit-and-run case A case has been registered at the Mani Majra police station against an unidentified driver of an Innova car who hit a pedestrian near Rajiv Colony on August 31. The victim was admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The case is under investigation. Man in police net The Chandigarh Police arrested Sushil, a resident of Phase I, Ramdarbar, for riding on a motorcycle with fake registered number. He was arrested from near the underbridge. Chandigarh, September 1 Sounding the wooden plank, the local side scored the lead through Arashdeep in the 7th minute however, soon received the jolt when Basi Pathana levelled the score in the 11th minute through Jasvir Singh’s goal. Soon after conceding the goal, the local side bounced back effectively, in next minutes, with Diljeet Singh scoring two back to goals in 12th minute and 16th minute. The lead was extended by Shaibjeet Singh in the 27th minute and later by Yashdeep after he scored team’s fifth goal in the 32nd minute. In the 42nd minute, Arashdeep completed team’s winning tally by scoring the sixth goal. Chandigarh Hockley Academy was awarded five penalty corners while MBCT, Bassi Pathana, got three. In the second match, Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar, seeded into semifinals by defeating EURO International School Group, Gurgaon, by 5-1. In the initial minutes, the winning side claimed the lead through Ajay Pal (2nd minute). The lead was doubled by Sudershan in the 14th minute as he braced another field score and further extended by Babukdeep in the 18th minute. Meanwhile, the Gurgaon outfit scored a brace through Manish in the 33rd minute however, in next two minutes Vikramjeet and Sudershan scored a goal each for confirming Jalandhar’s victory.
