Businessman attacked, gunshot fired into air

Chandigarh, June 20
High drama was witnessed in the Industrial Area, Phase II, here today when a Sector 46 resident threatened a businessman and fired a gunshot in the air. A dispute with a former employer was the reason behind the assault, the police said.

The incident occurred at 2:30 pm. Gaurav Bhatia, owner of AG InfoTech, was attacked when he came out of his office at Plot No. 940 in the Industrial Area, Phase II, here. He told the police that Amit Chaudhary, alias Amu, along with others came outside his office and assaulted him at gunpoint and hit him with a gun on his head.

He said one of the persons accompanying Amit fired one round in the air while leaving the spot.

Gaurav said he had recently fired Parveen Mohan, Amit’s relative, who was working as the manager in his company. Parveen was supplying data of his clients to rival companies.

Gaurav alleged that he received threatening calls from Parveen’s father Ram Lal Chaudhary and Amit.

Meanwhile, the police ruled out that any bullet was fired in the air and registered a case of causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

DSP (South) Surjit Malik said there was no evidence to suggest that a gunshot was fired. He said no one in the area heard the sound of the gunshot.

The police have registered a case under Sections 452, 323, 506, 34 of the IPC against Amu, Chetan and Saupi on the complaint of Gaurav Bhatia.

The police said efforts were on to arrest the accused.

4 held for consuming liquor at public places

Chandigarh, June 20
Continuing its drive against consuming liquor at public places, the Chandigarh Police arrested four persons today. The police arrested Raj Kumar, Rajinder and Sanjay, all residents of Ramdarbar, from near the Sector 31 market for consuming liquor at public places.

In another case, they arrested Jugnoo, a resident of Sector 38, from near Sector 38. All accused were booked under Sections 68-1-14 of the Excise Act and were later released on bail.

In a separate incident, the police arrested Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Kishangarh village, from near Raipur Kalan and recovered 28 boxes of country wine from his possession.

A case under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act was registered against the accused. Later, he was released on bail.

Wrestling tourney
Ankit bags Chandigarh Kesri title

In the wrestling-cum-selection tournament for sub-junior wrestling championship held at the Sports Complex, Sector 42, Ankit clinched Chandigarh ‘Kesri’ title, while Jaspreet bagged the Chandigarh ‘Bhim’ title, Ravi bagged Chandigarh ‘Kumar’ title, Chandigarh Prince title was bagged by Nitin and the Bal Balwan title was taken by Viraj Pathak.

Three teams were selected for the free-style tournament to be held in Srinagar from June 29 to July 2. The team members are Sonu, Vishal, Naveen, Narinder, Ankush, Preet Singh, Aman, Surinder, Praveen and Ankit.

In Greco-Roman category, Deepak, Raveen, Bhupinder, Vijender, Sachin, Tejasvi, Rahul, Praveen, Harvinder and Sachin were selected.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ category Bhavna, Megha, Sushma, Bindu, Puuja, Ankita, Monica, Kamaljit, Raveena and Jyoti were selected.

Sahil Mor, Jaskaran and Thomsom also won the trophies in their respective weight categories.
