Lawyer’s murder: Accused identified in court
Mohali, May 27 Gaganjot Singh, who had received two bullets in legs in an indiscriminate firing that took place on February 27, 2013, over the issue of parking, today identified Dharminder Singh, stating that he had fired shots at Lucky killing him on the spot. While identifying Rajat and Sunil Bhanot, Gaganjot stated that Rajat had opened fire on him, Sunil fired shots at his friend Simarjit. He stated that Jaswinder Singh, who did not turn up for the court hearing today, aimed fireshot at his father Manjit Singh Sethi, who had escaped unhurt. Meanwhile, Sumit Bajwa, the fiancee of one of the accused Sunbir Singh, also appeared in the court and moved an application to allow them to solemnise their marriage. Notably, Sunbir had also moved an application in the court to seek bail for the purpose of solemnising his marriage. |

BJP youth leader’s murder
Panchkula, May 27 Thought the police had rounded up suspects - Zorawar Hooda, his wife Saroj Hooda, their sons Arun Hooda and Tarun Hooda, Ramesh Dyal (RD) Swami, and Ajay- for their involvement in the crime, yet their arrest was shown only after Akil Mohammad , ADGP (Law and Order) started monitoring the case personally, highly placed sources in the police said. Their two accomplices - Sanju and Tinku - are still absconding, the police said. The police had registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 452 and 302 of the Indian penal code (IPC) and under provisions of the Arms Act at Mansa Devi Complex police station, late last evening on the complaint of Krishan Bhardwaj, father of the deceased. An eyewitness, Krishan Bhardwaj, in his complaint to the police claimed to have managed to catch an aide of assailants who attacked Ashutosh and Rahul with firearm and sharp-edged weapons while they were asleep at their home located in Manav Colony in Saketri village on Sunday midnight. The assailants Saroj Hooda and RD Swami were the masterminds of the conspiracy, Bhardwaj said in his complaint alleging that Arun Hooda alias Bholu, Tarun Hooda alias Monu along with their aides plotted the murder due to an old enmity. Sources in the police revealed that Ajay was wanted by the Rohatak police and had changed his looks to elude the police. He is a close relative of Saroj Hooda. ACP Jagtar Singh along with his team today searched the temple to find out if the assailants had hidden the weapons used in the crime there.The police has also failed to recover the firearm and other sharp-edged weapons used in the crime. When contacted, Ajay Singal, Commissioner of Police, claimed that the police had arrested six assailants and hunt for the two, who were absconding, was on. Police parties have been sent to their suspected hideouts he said. “We have taken them on police remand to investigate every aspect of the crime. The killer used 7.65 mm (.32 bore) firearm in the crime and more details could be ascertained only after the assailant who used it was arrested”, the CP claimed. Meanwhile, the five accused were produced before the court of Ajay Kumar Ghanghas (JMIC), here today. The Judge remanded Zorawar, Arun, Swami and Ajay to seven day’s police custody while Saroj was sent in judicial custody. While talking to The Tribune, Sharma alleged that a Hanuman temple adjacent to the colony was allegedly being used as a safe hideout for criminals by its priest, RD Swami. Swami was allegedly enjoying political patronage and providing shelter to criminals who worked for him. He also alleged that a family of self-styled Congress leader in connivance with the priest and his men attacked Ashutosh Bhardwaj and his family. 70-year-old held for sodomy bid
Chandigarh, May 27 The accused, Chander Singh, who retired as a sepoy from Indian Army, was booked on the charges of unnatural sex and threatening an eight-year-old boy. He was arrested from his rented accommodation The police said the boy lives in the same house on the top floor, where Chander has been living with his family for the last few months. The victim used to visit Chander's residence often. The minor, in his complaint to the police, claimed that on Sunday, the accused visited Chander's place while he was alone at home. The accused allegedly tried to molest and sodomise him but when he tried to oppose, Chander threatened him of dire consequences and overpowered him. The accused also threatened to kill him if he uttered a word about the incident. The scared child informed his parents who called the police. A case under Sections 377 (unnatural offence), 511 and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) has been registered. |

Chandigarh, May 27 Chandigarh team after resuming from their overnight score of 331 runs for 6 wickets went to score 363 for 8 off 108 overs before inviting Jalandhar to bat. For Jalandhar, Pargat Singh scalped 4 for 88. In reply, Jalandhar scored 218 before getting all out with 2 batsmen retired hurt. Panchkula, May 27 After electing to bat first, Lahore School’s Sports Academy posted 194 runs for 5 in 30 overs. Their innings was sustained by a well struck century of Shahruk Ali. He scored 114 runs off 96 balls and was supported by Safeer Mohd., who scored 52 runs. For North Zone side, Ankit (2 for 35) and Sagar Sharma (2 for 16) claimed two wickets each. Sudhakar Rao also claimed 1 for 12. Chasing the target, North Zone side achieved the target with five wickets in hand. The team scored 198 runs for 5 wickets in 24.5 overs with Ankit (56 runs) and Sagar Sharma (53 runs) completing their half centuries. Mayank Chaudhary (32 runs) and Aman (28 runs) were the other main scorers for the team. Mohd. Adil claimed 3 for 35 while Habib Waqas took 2 for 27. City lad to train in Argentina
Chandigarh, May 27 Shortlisted among 30 most promising players of the nation, sweeper back Nikhil Prashar caught the eyes of selectors, showcasing his talent, in the recently held Boca junior talent hunt competition in Goa. His team won the championship and foreign coaches spotted his talent. After a coaching-cum-selection camp, he successfully made it to the final 15-member squad. The squad will leave for Argentina later this year and will attend a precise training exposure sessions. Nikhil is the only lad from city to claim a spot in final 15-memebers squad. "It's a dream come true. I am happy to get through the rigorous training and make it to the final squad. Let's see what happens but this is going to be a great exposure for my football career," said Nikhil. In the process to claim this feat, Nikhil had gone through a rough patch of emotions when he lost his grandfather, during the training camp in Goa."He was the real motivation behind my career and I was numbed after receiving the news. However, to honour his memories and dream of watching me playing at my best, my family asked me to stay back in the camp. And the day, I got selected for the training session it was an emotional moment for me. On returning home, it was like I am gifting a present to his photograph," said Nikhil. Nikhil, a sweeper back (defender), started playing soccer in a local school and represented Chandigarh in nine nationals including different age groups. Presently, he is studying in a local college and after a marathon effort played North zone inter-university football championship and All India Inter-University Football Championship. In a recent feat, he was the member of the winning team that won the corporate league in Chandigarh and all India finals of Boca Football talent hunt tournament held in Goa. |

Chandigarh, May 27 Opener Arpit Singh claimed the feat with scoring a quick fire century (115 runs) off 75 balls while his counterpart Arvind shared the equal contribution with 106 runs off 70 balls. Shivam Bhamri for his 45 off 46 was the other noticeable scorer for the team. Karan (2 for 60) and Anish (2 for 69) claimed two wickets each.
