Forever, Ma
Aaj mere paas bangla hai, gadi hai… tumharey paas kya hai? Mere pass…maa hai!
The surreal dialogue between Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor from the hit movie of the 1980's, Deewar, has gone down in history - this one dialogue made every mother's heart swell with pride. Every kid could imagine the depth in that one reply - 'mere paas maa hai.' Indeed, a lifetime falls short in acknowledging the role, the sacrifices and the strengths of a mother — the only person who builds her world around her kids, who takes on the world for them and also bear endless tantrums. This Mother's Day, these beautiful women pick up interesting bits on their relationship with their mothers as well as kids. All smiles My mother was the most amazing person on earth; a fabulous cook, a great writer, someone who would make us laugh and someone who would laugh herself, loudly with an open heart. She was very hard-working and a dedicated mother. I remember: She was not like the conventional mother, the sobbing kids; she used to take my sisters and me on a rickshaw to watch Hindi films. I was a very average kid in school, but my mother made a big deal about it! What I imbibed: She was dutiful, loving and extremely kind to everyone around. To my kids: If only I could be a speck of what my mother was to me, it would be great. At the same time, I try to be the same with my kids Juhi and Aarya; I cook for them, I would also take them out for movies and I am always with them. Juhi, Nadira and Aarya Babbar Talking point She was a strong lady, someone who could handle her personal and professional life beautifully. She was independent and yet a mother when she was home. I remember: My mother always told me to strike a balance in life. She told me no matter what you do; when you are home you are a homemaker. I imbibe: I try to do the same thing with my kids; give them extra time, sit with them and discuss things. To my kids: I am more of a friend to my kids; I take their opinion in every decision, thus teaching them to be independent. Mom please: My kids feel I always digress from the topic in a conversation. Being strong I appreciate and understand my mother much more now, when I am bringing up my kids. Things that I would not take seriously, like wearing clothes according to the weather, eating right things at the right time…now I understand and tell the same to my kids! I remember: She always taught my brother and me to be independent, to look after ourselves without any support. I imbibe: She had the knack of making something out of nothing, she was very creative and I guess the same goes for me. Mom please: I get the reply from my kids that I used to give to my mother when she would ask me eat right…mom please! Confidence matters I remember: My mother would travel alone to West Bengal where my grandparents lived, without any fear. She always taught me to face situations head-on. I imbibe: My mother was never judgmental and this is one trait I have imbibed. Mom please: I have started giving a lot of credit to destiny, which makes my kids sometime say Mom please! Actions speak My mother was always a mother, not a friend; we have enough friends outside she would say. I remember: I remember she wouldn't talk loudly or hit us, whatever she wanted to convey she did it through her actions. I imbibe: I believe if you have to teach anything to your kids, you have to do it through your actions; I do the same with my son. Mom please: I am an overprotective mother. I give a hundred instructions to my son before he goes out; that's when I hear him say mom please! Patience pays I remember: She is very patient with everyone. She always told me to eat right, something which I always ignored. I imbibe: Her patience. Mom please: Now when my little one refuses to eat something, I know what I said to my mom.
jasmine@tribunemail.com Mom’s the world M is for the million things she gave me, O means only that she's growing old, T is for the tears she shed to save me, H is for her heart of purest gold; E is for her eyes, with love-light shining, R means right, and right she'll always be, Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER," A word that means the world to me. — Howard Johnson (Courtesy: Internet)

The music album features the title track, Lo Jee Romeo Ranjha Aa Gaye, which is written by Veet Baljit and Chandri Raat, written by Kumaar and sung by Garry Sandhu. "I really like the songs Chotte Kaake and Jugnu because these songs have a very folksy feel that is typical of my music, especially the heavy influence of the sarangi," says Jazzy B. While Tich Lagdi by Garry and Jazzy B is a dance number, Garry has also crooned the next track Athroo, which is the emotional number. "This movie is my debut in Pollywood, but I am sure that I could not have got a better start. I have sung two solo tracks and got a chance to sing along with Jazzy B, which was an accomplishment in itself. I seek the blessings of all my fans and supporters." While talking about the film, Navaniat Singh says the film is essentially an action heist, falling in the same genre as Dhoom and Race. "The action sequences are the highlights of the film and they have been directed by Allan Amin, who has shot the action sequences in films like Dhoom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Race," says Navaniat, the director of the film. He stresses that the film is essentially a plot driven film and has several layers. amarjot@tribunemail.com

Colour & comfort
As the season changes, fashion too changes and we have new colours and new styles to celebrate the new season. This summer predicts bright colours and new hues. A student of INIFD, Avneet goes into the details of fashion scene. Your sense of style For me style denotes class and the ability to accessorise for the right effect and yet appearing comfortable at the same time. What is one thing you treasure in your belongings? A bag in golden colour from Micheals Kors. Your style icon… That would be Deepika Pandukone definitely. And the worst-dressed celebrity? Kangana Ranaut surely. Brand freak or street pick-ups? Totally brand freak. Sporty, chic or glamorous? Sometimes sporty and sometimes glam. Your take on accessories… My only accessory is my bag, no trinkets for me. What is one fashion trend you would not like to follow? Bell-bottom pants and high-waist jeans. If given the choice who would be your designer? Sabya Sachi any day. What boosts your confidence level? When my comfort level is there and I know I am dressed well I feel good. — As told to Poonam Bindra |

A dig at fanaticism
Bombay Mirror, a short film which was made four years ago by filmmaker Shlok Sharma, has apparently gone viral on the social-media now. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao and Vijay Mauraya, tells the story of a Hindu barber and a Muslim customer. It takes a dig on fanaticism. In an exclusive, we caught up with Shlok to talk about his short film and more...
What inspired you to make Mumbai Mirror? The same thing that inspires any other film. My main concern was to make sure that I do not end up hurting the sentiment of any belief system. I only wanted to say a simple story in three minutes, something that my audience would remember in spite of the duration of three minutes. It was made years ago but it never got released. How come? Also, how has been response so far? It was made almost four years back under a campaign by UTV and Aircel. I have no idea why it never got released. The response has been overwhelming. I have received messages from across the globe, people even requesting me for a subtitled version of the film. People have sent me incidents and episodes that they have personally experienced or gone through. As a film-maker, I think it is a huge compliment. Your next film is titled Haramkhor. How did you come up with the title? It is essentially a love story starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It's about these wretched souls who are trapped in their circumstances, and end-up paying a price for their self-inflicted choices in life. At this stage, this is all I would disclose, since it is in the final stages of post-production. As far as the choice of the title goes, when you see the film you will understand. You have also assisted Anurag Kashyap on many films. What's that one important thing you have learnt from him? That if you want to become a good film maker, you have to let go of your insecurities, because film-making is all about team work. What's next for you? Are you working on something new? I have a couple of scripts in the pipeline.

Sakshi to play Priyanka
Newbie Sakshi Chaudhary has been zeroed in on to play Priyanka Chopra in a film, based on the National Award winning actress' infamous fallout with her former secretary Prakash Jaju over finances. Sakshi, it would be recalled, has been signed by producer Firoz Nadiadwala for a three-film deal. She will be first seen opposite John Abraham in the next installment of the Hera Pheri franchise. For the role of Priyanka Chopra in 67 Days, Sakshi would have to go into rigorous workshops. "She will play Priyanka after very closely studying of her movies. Sakshi is not a major movie buff. But Aseem Merchant, who is making 67 Days, wants Sakshi to adopt Priyanka's body language and mannerisms," said a source. "Priyanka tends to talk rapidly, letting the sentences, words spill out in a tumble. Sakshi would be speaking like that. They will also attempt to recreate some of Priyanka's early songs from Andaaz and Aitraaz," said the source. On being contacted, Sakshi said, "I don't think I am allowed to talk about this. But yes, I am playing the part in the film that you mention.” —IANS

Delighting onscreen mother
With the hectic shoot schedules eating into their personal lives, Sriti Jha and Mrunal Thakur seem to have formed quite an affectionate mother-daughter bond with Supriya Shukla in Zee TV's show Kumkum Bhagya. Planning a special surprise for her on Mother's Day, both Sriti and Mrunal are putting their minds together on how to delight their on-screen mother.
Their ideas range from cooking a special meal for her to buying a gift to taking her out shopping. Supriya, it seems, never misses out on a single chance to feed them. Fondly calling her maa off screen as well, the two girls have always reminded Supriya of her own daughters since Sriti and Mrunal are poles apart in terms of personality types, just like them. It has barely been a few months since the crew has started shooting, but looks like they have all made bonds that would last a lifetime. Ask Supriya on her bond with the two girls on the sets, she says, "I feel at home each time I go to the sets. Anytime that I have to do an emotional scene, I do not need to use glycerine because Sriti's acting is so very natural that I just look into her eyes and cry naturally. And I love it when she responds with as much affection towards me. Both of them are great girls to work with." While Supriya couldn't stop talking about the two, Sriti and Mrunal were equally excited to narrate their tales. Talking about their onscreen mother, the two of them said, "She is our 'annadatta' on the sets; very cute and mother-like. It is so much fun when she is around. She is a like a livewire and adorable." Well, what can we say when there is just so much love all around!
