Seven members of a polling team and five CRPF personnel were among 14 killed as Maoists struck twice today in less than an hour, blowing up a bus and an ambulance in Bijapur and Bastar districts of Chhattisgarh. Ten persons, including five paramilitary personnel, were also injured in the two incidents.

Storm over video of Punjab CM asking for poll funds

News channel reports showing Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal openly asking industrialists to contribute to SAD-BJP’s Jalandhar candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu’s poll fund has created a political storm. The Opposition has asked the Election Commission to bar him from campaigning for “blatant violation” of the model code of conduct.

Celebrated lyricist and poet Gulzar has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2013, becoming the 45th in the series of illustrious awardees. A seven-member jury consisting of eminent artists unanimously recommended the 79-year-old Gulzar for the honour.
