Chargesheet in minor’s rape case
Cops, victim exchanged 123 calls
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 28
In two months, since the minor girl got in touch with the two UT police constables, Sunil and Akshay, who have been chargesheeted for raping her, a total of 123 phone calls were reportedly exchanged between the accused and the girl.

The two dismissed constables, posted with the Police Control Room, had got in touch with the girl when they went to her place to attend to a complaint regarding a quarrel in October last year.

The details regarding these 123 calls, which form crucial evidence in the case, are mentioned in the 312-page chargesheet submitted to court last week. While the police have chargesheeted Sunil and Akshay for rape, rest of the three accused have been charged with criminal conspiracy, threatening and molesting the minor girl.

It was constable Akshay who first came in contact with the minor girl, as he used to reside in her neighbourhood in Khuda Lahora, states the chargesheet. Akshay made the first call on her mobile phone on October 12 last year, and called her 30 times till November 27. The minor girl, too, had called him 32 times in this period.

After the girl got in touch with Akshay’s colleague Sunil, who used to share accommodation with Akshay, he too started calling her.

A total of 34 calls have been made from Sunil’s mobile phone to the victim’s between November 3 and December 10, last year. The girl, meanwhile, called him 14 times during this period. There are another 17 calls exchanged between constable Sunil and the girl from December 10 onwards till the case was registered and the accused were arrested on December 19.

Constable Himmat Singh, charged with molestation, had also called the girl 34 times in two months, while the other two accused charged with molestation, Anil and Jagtar, had very little correspondence with the victim, state the call records.

Records show that while Jagtar made two calls to the victim, constable Anil Kumar sent one SMS to her.

The constables, who were dismissed immediately after the case broke on December 19, last year, are presently in judicial custody.

Accused forced girl to take contraceptive pills

The statements given by the victim before the magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC, in which she recalled the horror she underwent when the two constables allegedly raped her, have also been attached with the chargesheet. The girl has stated that she was forced to consume contraceptive pills by the accused, who used to threaten to kill her if she got pregnant.
