AAP launches membership drive in Dera Bassi, Zirakpur
Dera Bassi, January 21 HS Kohli, the AAP party’s in-charge for Dera Bassi and Lalru areas, said so far, they had enrolled over 7,000 members in the areas under his command. Also, the party is raising common issues and problems of people with the authorities concerned. He said they had raised the issues of corruption Kohli claimed that people from all walks of life were showing interest in the membership campaign of the party. Narinderjeet Kaur Brar, the in-charge for Zirakpur area, said over 500 members from the Zirakpur area had registered with the party. Kohli added that they were also familiarising people with the programmes and demands of the AAP. |
Pedestrian dies in accident
Chandigarh, January 21 Police sources said recording of CCTV cameras installed at the entry point of Gate No. 2 of PU and at the light point would be checked for clues. “The entrance of PU is quite active even in late night hours” police said. In another accident, a 45 year-old unidentified pedestrian died. The pedestrian was hit by a Skoda car on January 19. The pedestrian was crossing the road dividing Sector 38 and 40. The victim was rushed to PGI where he succumbed to his injuries. The police have recovered the vehicle from the spot. |

Poor floodlights hit practice session
Chandigarh, January 21 The city will witness the Jaypee Punjab Warriors team taking on Delhi Waveriders in the opening encounter of the HIL 2014 edition on Saturday. And with this opening game, Sandeep Singh of the Punjab team will face his friend-cum-former teammate Sardar Singh of Delhi Waveriders. Sardar, who is at present heading the Indian hockey squad, and Sandeep, who is a former member of the Indian team, will prove their mettle against each other in the first game. Both teams attended a practice session at the new stadium today. However, the visiting Delhi side suffered during their first session at the stadium due to low floodlights. However, in order to make this event a success, the management of the Punjab Warriors team announced free passes for students and personnel of the armed forces for the matches scheduled to be played in Mohali. The free passes, which are available at Gate No 2 of the Mohali hockey stadium, will be given after checking identity cards. Others will have to pay a nominal amount of Rs 50 for the general stand and Rs 500 for the VIP stand. These tickets can be bought from Gate No. 2 of the stadium, The Peddlers, Sector 35, Chandigarh; Nik Bakers, Sector 9 and 22, Chandigarh, and Glasstique, Sector 9, Panchukla. The opening ceremony will have a Bollywood performance and a laser show. The ceremony will start at 6.45pm. The Punjab team will play five matches at their home turf during the tournament. The first match will be held on January 25, when Punjab Warriors will face Delhi Waveriders (8pm) while in the second match, the home team will face Dabur Mumbai Magicians on January 26 (8pm). On February 11, Punjab Warriors will lock horns with Kalinga Lancers whereas on February 15 (8pm), the Punjab side will face Uttar Pradesh Wizards (6pm). In the last home match, the Punjab side will take on defending champions Ranchi Rhinos on February 16 (8pm). “We are optimistic for our performance. All players are fit to play in any condition. The local crowd will also cheer for us and we are ready to give our best and a better performance than the previous year” said Jamie Dwyer, captain, Punjab team. |
PU softball teams excel in national tournament
Chandigarh, January 21 The women’s team bagged the runners-up position while the other team secured the third position in the championship. The event was held from January 13 to 18. Trials for national wushu meet from Feb 6
Chandigarh, January 21 The trials to select the players will be held at Labour Hall, Sector 30, Chandigarh, on January 22 at 4pm. The players are advised to bring the proofs of residence and birth certificate. The shortlisted players will attend a practice camp from January 24 to February 5 before the final selection of the team. The players born between February 1, 1996, and February 28, 1997, will be eligible to take part in the trials under both boys and girls categories. The selection trials will be held for different weight categories. Boys weight category: 48kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg and 90kg and above. Girls weight category: 45kg, 48kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg and 75kg. |
