Snatching case: Cops clueless

Kalka, January 20
The police are still clueless in a snatching case. Two motorcycle-borne robbers committed the crime in the lower bazzar, Kalka, on Friday. 

They snatched a purse from Saroj Kumari, when she was going to her house. The police had not found any clue of the robbers. — OC

PGI fined Rs 2,000

The District Consumer Forum has directed the PGI to refund Rs 581.13 and pay Rs 2,000 to the complainant.

Complainant Brij Mohan Phondi, a resident Sector 68, Mohali, stated that he visited the Oral Health Sciences Department of the PGI on September 17 in 2012. The doctor prescribed a CT scan.

The complainant claimed that when he went for the CT scan on September 26, he was asked to bring certain medicines, which he purchased and handed over to the person concerned. The scan was done.

When the requisitioned medicine, contrapaque, was not injected to him, he questioned the doctor, who told him that the medicine was not required. The complainant asked the doctor to return the medicine, but the latter refused to do so.

The respondent, in its reply, maintained that the complainant was scheduled for a CT scan on the PNS region. The referring clinician had given a CT scan form for a plain CT scan. The resident doctor reviewed the form and felt that the contrast might be required for the complainant after seeing the history on his form and asked the patient to procure the contrast. The complainant was prepared for contrast CT. Plan of plain CT followed by contrast CT was made and plain CT was done first. The doctor, after reviewing the plain CT found that the information which was required by the referring doctor was therxe in plain CT itself and contrast CT was not needed so the complainant was taken off the table.

Woman held for killing paramour

Mohali, January 20
The police have arrested three persons alleged for murder of Harpreet Singh (42). The accused were identified as Amandeep Kaur (33), Rajvinder Singh (38) and Darshan Kumar, alias, Kala (35).

The deceased was a resident of Lasoi village, Malerkotla.

The police had registered a case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC, on a complaint of Shamsher Singh, a resident of Badali.

SSP Inder Mohan Singh said Harpreet had alleged illicit relations with Amandeep Kaur for about nine years. She got married about five years ago to Rajvinder Singh, a resident of Tolemajra village. The couple was presently living in Kharar. They had a one and a half year old child from this marriage.

The police said Harpreet Singh used to visit Kharar to meet her but she was fed up with the relation and wanted to get rid of him. On January 1, Harpreet Singh visited her house to meet her. As they used to meet in a hidden manner, she told him to hide in a wooden box, on the pretext that someone had and they might get caught. She locked him in the box. He later died in the box. The body was kept in the box for four days. To destroy evidence of the crime she took help of her husband and his associate, Darshan Kumar. They wrapped the body threw it in the fields of Shamsher Singh.

Thieves decamp with cash, valuables

Panchkula, January 20
Even as the police kept stressing the need for deploying security guards outside ATM kiosks in Panchkula, thieves struck at a property consultant’s showroom.

A guard was manning an ATM at a stone’s throw from the showroom in Sector 20 when the theft took place last night.

The thieves also made an attempt to break into two jewellery shops and a garment store in the area, but failed as the alarm system in one of the shops forced them to flee.

Thieves decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Hallamark Properties.

Owner of the showroom Vivek Gupta said: “The thieves entered the showroom from the rear side. They also made an attempt to break into the premises of Sai Jewellers, Bhagwati Jewellers and Kiran Garments, but it was foiled as the alarm system installed at Sai Jewellers went off.”

The guard at the ATM said didn’t saw the thieves.

The police and forensic experts reached the spot. The police spotted footprints of the thieves from where they jumped on to the wall to make entry into the showroom. Recently, the thieves had targeted a jewellery shop, Silver Mountain, in the same area.

Girls accuse ASI of teasing 

Panchkula, January 20
Three girls today complained to Assistant Commissioner of Police at Sector 1 against the in-charge of police post Morni, ASI Rajender Singh. The girls complained that the cop teases them while going to college and also asks for their phone numbers. It was also told that the cop usually visits their paying guest accommodation at night and troubles them. The police have marked an inquiry into the matter.

Man robbed of Rs 6,000

Four armed robbers looted a youth for Rs 6,000 at the road separating Sector 14 and 15. The victim, identified as Tarsem, was going home at Rajiv Colony when the incident took place. According to the police, the robbers came in a swift car. A case has been registered at the Sector 14 police station. — TNS

Sports meet for orphans held

The Rotract Club, Chandigarh, organised the annual sports meet for the children living in orphanages of the tricity. The meet was organised at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, and over 100 children participated in the meet. Events included track race, long jump, high jump were organised during the meet.

Oscar wins bronze medal

Oscar Bansal, a local badminton player, won bronze medal in the Men’s Singles event of the ongoing All- India Senior Ranking Tournament. Oscar is posted in IT Department, has won the medal during the meet being held at Bareli. — TNS

Udham wins title in archery

Chandigarh, January 20
Udham Singh of Panjab University, Chandigarh, secured the first place in the Indian round 50m event, during the ongoing All India Inter-University Archery Championship for Men and Women, being organised at Sports Ground of Panjab University, here today. In the 50m event, Udham secured 327 points out of 360 points. Rajan Kumar of CCS University, Meerut, secured second spot scoring 312 points while Th. Langamba of Manipur University, Canchipur, scored 308 points to secure third place.

In the 50m Indian style women’s competition, Manpreet Kaur of Punjabi University, Patiala, stood first. — TNS
