Singles prefer to meet at a gym than at a bar

It has been deduced that a three-quarter of the singles prefer to meet at a gym than at a bar. The best place according to 62 per cent of them to find love is the gym. Women prefer to meet prospective partners at the gym as this would indicate that these men are more conscious about their health and fitness. Also, they figured, the men at the gym would be much nicer than those at the bar. Conducted by social dating service canoodle.com on 1,500 of its members, they asked the participants about where and how they met their partner. The survey opens up a whole new world for singles ready to mingle and points them in an all new direction to look for mates.

Rate of divorce higher for stepdads

Stepdadding.com has conducted a survey which reveals that stepdads are two times more likely to divorce their wives than men in conventional marriages. Carried out in April 2013 by researchers at Birgham Young's School of Social Work, the survey found that men who were stepdads to at least one child were 60 per cent more inclined to initiate a divorce as opposed to 30 per cent men initiating it in traditional marriages. The reason cited by almost 70 per cent was the bickering over kids' issues and a feeling of lack of appreciation. The rest were unclear about their parenting roles.

Junk food ads of sports stars making kids fat

Yale University has concluded on the basis of a study, "Athlete Endorsements in Food Marketing", that endorsements of junk food by athletes is indeed having a detrimental effect on kids' waistlines. Led by Marie Bragg from the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University, the team put together a list of ads for top 100 athletes and their endorsements. About a fourth of the ads were related to food and beverages, most of which were calorie rich and low in nutrition. With teens watching and absorbing a lot of what they see on TV, they have been a target group and have been worst affected. With these athletes being role models for most kids, the problem is compounded. Compiled by Aditi Garg
