THE maximum number of fruits in the world grows in the island of Borneo in South East Asia. Most fruits just grow wild in the vast rainforests of this island which has an area of 7, 43,330 square kilometres. Although it has not been possible to document all the fruits growing in Borneo, but botanists estimate that their number exceeds 500. Some fruits in Borneo not known much to outside world, are mata kuching, tarap, salak and pulasan.
