Expedite trial against accused, says ETO’s widow
Mohali, December 5 Manjit Kaur alleged that the accused - Amandeep Kaur, the suspended Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), constable Harminder Singh and Ludhiana-based transporters Ranjit Singh Gopi, Paramjit Singh and Rajinder Sood - had led her husband to commit suicide by implicating him in a false case. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune at her residence today, Manjit Kaur said, “The Mohali court has accepted the cancellation of the bribe case against my husband, which meant that he has been exonerated of the charge. But the loss (of my husband’s death) that I have suffered would never be compensated. However, now I want that the proceedings in the case against the accused be expedited so that justice should be done as soon as possible.” Manjit Kaur claimed to have procured a copy of the court’s order only yesterday. Notably, the local court had approved Manjit Kaur’s application regarding cancellation of the bribe case against her husband on September 4. Ranjit Singh was also given clean chit in the departmental inquiry conducted earlier. It may be recalled that SP (Vigilance) Amandeep Kaur had claimed to have nabbed Ranjit Singh, an ETO, while accepting a bribe of Rs 2.52 lakh from a Ludhiana transporter, Gopi, on March 29, 2011, following which a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him. Ranjit Singh committed suicide on April 23, 2011, by consuming celphos tablets. On August 18, 2012, a case under Sections 306, 166, 167, 195, 218, 332, 353 and 120 B of the IPC and various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Amandeep Kaur, constable Harminder Singh, Ranjit Singh Gopi, Paramjit Singh and Rajinder Sood following directions of the Mohali court. Now, the proceedings of framing charges against the five accused are on in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (senior division) here. |
