Diwali kicking off in November is spilling over with some out-of-the-box films with the masses as the target audience. These are glittering celluloid Diwali crackers and sparklers that will send our pulses racing and our hearts skipping beats. Diwali kicks off with Krrish 3 directed by Rakesh Roshan. This is followed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela and writer-turned-director Vishwas Patil’s Rajjo releasing on the same day. Punit Malhotra’s Gori Tere Pyar Mein and Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great are simultaneous releases while the icing on this cake is in the name and style of Bullet Raja directed by one of the most noted directors of Bollywood — Tigmanshu Dhulia. One look at the
colourful variety in genres, storylines, mounting and casting will
take the reader’s breath away. Krrish 3 as we are aware is
the third in the sci-fi series featuring Hrithik Roshan as the
superhero with Kaal, the villain, portrayed by Vivek Oberoi, as
powerful as Krrish himself. The trailers are trailblazers in their own
right filled with mesmerising somersaults through the air, a masked
Krrish flying across the skies to leap from one point to another. It
consolidates the position of Hrithik Roshan as the only superhero of
sci-fi cinema in Bollywood.
Sahitya Akademi-awardee-turned-filmmaker Vishwas Patil will unveil his glittering film Rajjo based on a story by Jayant Pawar, starring Kangana Ranaut in one of the most unique roles in her career. It is a musical based on the slowly fading away culture of mujra houses in big cities. Patil has claimed that the film will remind us of the cult musical romance we encountered in Kamal Amrohi’s Pakeezah. An extensive red light area was reconstructed and the figures ran up to around Rs 5 crore on the sets alone. Cinematographer Vinod Pradhan has created one of the most glamorous and opulent lighting seen in Bollywood recently. Munish Sappal created the sets based on the field research done by writer Atul Tiwari, who visited the bylanes of Hira Mandi in Lahore, Pakistan. The story revolves around the love between the mujra performer Rajjo and a 17-year-old Brahmin boy portrayed by Paras Arora. Like all Sanjay Leela Bhansali films, Ram Leela has already created much hype springing from the grapevine’s insistence that this is a relocated, Indianised presentation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Bhansali carefully picked some of the most glamorous and colourful locations to shoot this film beginning with Gujarat, moving on to Udaipur Palace and the Gangaur Ghat. One song sequence was shot in freezing cold water in Udaipur. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone are playing the ill-fated lovers and Ranveer, who plays a Gujarati, had to learn some Gujarati abuses for his role and work out at the gym especially created by Bhansali in Film City. Padukone wears a 30 kg ghagra with a circumference of 50 metres! Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who was earlier roped in to design the costumes of Deepika, was later replaced by Anju Mody. The song promos are mind-blowing and charismatic. The music of Ram-Leela is original, melodious and archival. Punit Malhotra, Imran
Khan and Karan Johar have once again teamed up together after I
Hate Luv Stories for Gori Tere Pyar Mein. It’s a romcom
starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor fixed after several casting
issues, which delayed the film by two years! Says Kareena, "Punit
wants me to have a stylishly different look and as there are five
songs with a lot of dancing roped in, I need to look voluptuous and
attractive in a different way." She also has an item song and a
wedding number.
Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great features Sunny Deol, Urvashi Rautela and Prakash Raj. After having given hits like Gadar — Ek Prem Katha and Hero — Love Story of a Spy with Sunny, Sharma says, "Sunny is the number one action hero. Singh Sahab The Great will be his comeback as an action hero. His pairing with Urvashi Rautela is looking outstanding." One of the biggest adrenalin raisers in this Diwali season is Bullet Raja that has aroused electrically charged intrigue in lovers of Bollywood films. It is an action-centric crime thriller directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, who has established his signature with his command over celluloid violence in his two Gangs of Wasseypur films. The film is produced by Rahul Mitra, Nitin Tej Ahuja and Tigmanshu Dhulia and will be presented by Fox Star Studios. The casting has Saif Ali Khan cast opposite Sonakshi Sinha with support from Jimmy Shergill, Ravi Kishan, Chunky Pandey, Gulshan Gorver and Vidyut Jamwal, a trained martial artist, who does his stunts himself. Gulshan Grover plays a negative role as a powerful goon. The film is set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh-based mafia. The film has been shot extensively in Lucknow and some parts in Kolkata, Mumbai and Nashik. The grapevine says that both real and fake guns have been used for the shooting because Saif asked for real guns to give the film a realistic look. So, pencil in these films and their details in your Diwali diary. One can promise you a real blast big enough for you to forget your crackers!
