Over 140 kg of crackers seized
Chandigarh, November 2 The officials raided Dadu Majra, Maloya, Palsora, Burail, Kajehri, Mauli Jagran, Mani Majra and Bapu Dham Colony, Sectors 44 and 56. UT Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Shayin directed the SDMs to conduct raids in their respective areas. SDM (South) Kashish Mittal said over 101 kg of crackers were seized from Dadu Majra, Maloya, Sector 56, Palsora, Sector 44, Burail and Kajheri. Dansih Ashraf, SDM (East) seized 40 kg of crackers from five unauthorised shops in Sector 26, Mauli Jagran, Mani Majra and Bapu Dham Colony. The raids will continue till Sunday.

4 held for duping jeweller of Rs 56 lakh
Mohali, November 2 The police has already arrested five accused in this connection. The employees of both the companies had changed a parcel containing gold jewellery worth around Rs 20 lakh, which was being sent to Mumbai by the jeweller. 6-wkt win for YPS lads on home turf
Chandigarh, November 2 After electing to bat first, the under-17 boys’ side of the visiting school posted a total of 87 runs, before being bundled out in 19.5 overs. The hosts attained the target, losing four wickets, in the nineteenth over of the match. In the second match of the day, Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, went down against The Daly College, Indore. After being put in to bat first, the Indore outfit set a healthy target of 143 runs in the allotted 20 overs. The team lost six wickets in the process. In reply, YPS, Patiala, could muster only 90 runs, being all out in 16.2 overs. The Daly College, Indore, could only manage to tie their second league match of the day, against Mayo College, Ajmer. The Indore team levelled the target set by Mayo College with one wicket in hand. Batting first, the Ajmer-based college had posted 88 runs in 16 overs for the loss of seven wickets. In the fourth match, the Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai, trounced Birla Public School, Pilani, by nine wickets. The Motilal Nehru School of Sports scored a meagrely 50 for the loss of one wicket in 19.2 overs. Chasing the target, Birla Public School could manage to score only 48 runs, before getting all out in 14.2 overs. In another match, Sanik School, Kapurthala, tasted defeat against Punjab Public School, Nabha. Batting first, the Nabha outfit scored 115 runs, losing six wickets in 20 overs. Sanik School missed the target by seven runs, being bundled out on 108 runs in 18.1 overs. Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi, trumped Punjab Public School, Nabha, in another tie today. The 90-run victory saw DPS lads thrashing the rival bowlers to set up a target of 152 runs. The Nabha team could score only 62 runs, as the DPS bowlers too tasted success. In the last match, Mann Public School, Holambi, New Delhi, defeated Scindia School, Gwalior, by 19 runs. The winning side posted 89 runs in 20 overs. |
US team beat Indian counterparts
Chandigarh, November 2 The Beta Soft Systems (India) posted 106 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Atul topped the score chart with 35 off 41 balls. For the US side, Ashwal and Sanjay claimed three wickets each. In reply, man of the match Vikas guided the team to victory with 55 off 49. |
Punjab & Haryana HC trump Delhi team
Chandigarh, November 2 In the final, the local side defeated their arch rivals, the Delhi High Court team, by six wickets. Bowling first at Modern School, New Delhi, the Punjab and Haryana High Court team restricted the Delhi team to a total of 89 runs. Suresh Kumar scripted the win by scoring a run-a-ball 42. He bagged the man of the match award for this effort. |
Athletes make school proud at district meet
Chandigarh, November 2 In boys’ category, Simar Singh stood first in hammer throw and discus throw, while Navrohi Singh outpaced his contenders in the 400-m race. Vishnu came second in the long jump event besides winning another silver in the 200-m race. Jalaj Sharma won gold in the under-17 category of hammer throw. Navjot Singh stood first in the discus throw event of the same age group. Uday Modgill won silver in discus throw, 200-m race and triple jump. Jaspreet Jassi attained the top spot in the 100-m and 200-m race, and Gursawak Singh came second in the 200-m race in the under-19 category. |
Panchkula girl brings laurels
Chandigarh, November 2 A total of eight countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, Bhutan and Nepal, participated in the championship. Ishika took part in three bouts against performers from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the host nation. Sanjay Sethi, director of the school, congratulated Ishika on winning the medal. |
