Get your licences issued before Oct 31, DC tells travel agents
Fatehgarh Sahib, October 17 Licenses must be issued for the regularisation of their profession, otherwise they will be barred from continuing their profession, said the Deputy Commissioner, Arun Sekhri. “With the efforts of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to curb the illegal, fraudulent, and fleecing activities of fake travel agents, emigration consultants and ticketing agents, the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act has been initiated, under which all the travel agents, emigration consultants and ticketing agents have to get themselves registered,” said the Deputy Commissioner. Form-1 for this purpose is available at all the Suvidha centres in the district. Travel agents operating from past five years have to deposit Rs 1 lakh as fee along with certain documents and an affidavit. Those who have started the profession before five years, have to deposit a sum of Rs 25,000 along with the necessary documents. The DC appealed to all to get the registration done at the earliest, to avoid any legal action. “Verify registration certificates of travel agents before dealing with them,” said Sekhri. |

Panchkula, October 17 When constable Siddharth, the prime witness in the case, stepped into the witness box, the public prosecutor wasted a lot of time in arranging the documents. The court snubbed the prosecution and forwarded the order to the director, prosecution. Five other witnesses Assistant Sub Inspector Jaswinder Singh, constable Balwinder, PA to the Haryana Principal Secretary and two telecom nodal officers appeared in the court today. Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary was also produced in the court today. Chaudhary and four others have been accused of killing Jyoti, who hailed from Hoshiarpur. The victim was found murdered on a road in Sector 21 Panchkula. The chargesheet filed by the Panchkula police stated that since Jyoti was coming in the way of Chaudhary’s political career and wanted him to continue the relationship, he eliminated her with the help of his aides. Rape on wheels: Another witness turns hostile
Chandigarh, October 17 While earlier he had told the court that he was aware of the conspiracy that NK Jain had hatched to frame another person MK Jain in the rape case. Today, he told the court that he was not aware of any such thing. The Chandigarh police had registered a case in August, 2002, against NK Jain and four others for hatching a conspiracy to frame MK Jain in the rape case. The Shimla-based girl had alleged that Jain had picked her up from a Sector 20-based computer centre, saying he would give her a job. On their way to Panchkula, she alleged that Jain gave her a soft drink laced with drugs and later raped her, before dumping her near the Sector-33 petrol station. However, after investigations conducted by the UT police, it came to light that the victim had not been raped by MK Jain, but by the former UT home secretary, who hatched a conspiracy to falsely implicate the businessman. The court of District and Sessions Judge, SK Aggrawal, framed charges of rape against a Yamunanagar-based doctor who was arrested for raping a medical student. Accused Dr Vaageesh Gutain, who was posted as the medical officer at the primary health centre in Buria will be facing trial for rape on the pretext of marriage and cheating. The UT police had arrested Gutain on the complaint of 25-year-old medical student, a resident of Sector 8, who had accused him of sexually exploiting her for three years. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Nazar Singh, framed murder charges against accused in two cases today. The court framed charges against Thakur, alias Amresh, who had murdered a rickshaw-puller on June 25 this year. Munshi Ram (45), was stabbed to death by Thakur, alias Amresh, with a handsaw as he suspected that the rickshaw-puller had stolen his utensils. Charges were framed under Section 302 of the IPC against him by the court. In another case, the court framed charges against two persons Raju and Rajesh Kumar who had murdered Anoop Chauhan on June 21 this year. The prosecution established that the victim had gone to buy drugs and had a fight with two persons known to him over sharing of the contraband. Anoop, a drug addict, had been missing since June 15 and his body was found on June 18 from an old government building being used by the wireless wing of Punjab in Sector 25. A Chandigarh police commando attached with the operation cell (anti-terrorism squad) was thrashed by two hotel agents, who were fighting with each other at the ISBT-43 last night. Commando Saravjeet Singh, who was on special duty at the bus terminal, was trying to pacify the two agents when both of them attacked him with an iron rod and a hockey stick. The agents have been identified as Suraj and Babban. They are yet to be arrested. The accused used to ferry customers from the ISBT to hotels in Maloya village in their autos. 2 acquitted in robbery case
Panchkula, October 17 The accused identified as Arjun and Amandeep were arrested by the police, but lack of circumstantial evidences led the court to acquit them. As per the information, on the New Year eve's night last year, the victim, Madhvi Kashyap, was alone at her house with her six-month-old daughter, while her husband was away for work at a hotel in Chandigarh, when the robbers struck at the house. The accused, on the pretext of giving some material sent by her husband visited the house. As soon as Madhvi opened the door, the duo forcibly entered and held the baby girl hostage at knifepoint and fled away with cash and jewellery worth lakhs. Notably, the then station house officer of the area, Aruna Kumari, and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police were placed under suspension after the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) holding additional charge, Nazneen Bhasin, found that the cops had initially imposed theft section on the robbery incident. The two were suspended after the Deputy Commissioner of Police came to know about the truth from the victim's husband that the cops forced them to change statements. |

Former SP acquitted in suicide case
Mohali, October 17 The challan was presented in the Dera Bassi court, but the case was shifted to Mohali. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against the SP on June 24 after 23-year-old Lovepreet Kaur had allegedly jumped off the sixth floor of Mohan Lal's apartment at Zirakpur in May. The FIR was
lodged on the complaint of Lovepreet's father Lakhwinder Singh, a Punjab Police head constable. The inquiry into the case was conducted by SP (D) Balwinder Singh. Mohan Lal was placed under suspension. The Mohali SSP had constituted a special investigation team of three officers to probe the case. Demanding a CBI probe into the case, the girl's father had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He had alleged that his daughter was raped and murdered by the police officer. Mohan Lal had, however, denied the charges and surrendered before the Mohali police in Zirakpur on June 26.

Registration certificate suspended
Chandigarh, October 17 The court suspended the RC of 26-year-old Gursimran for one month after he failed to produce his driver's licence. The court also imprisoned Gursimran till the rising of the court, besides imposing a penalty of Rs 3,000 for drunk
driving. He was challaned for drunk driving on October 15 at a barrier on the road separating Sectors 22
and 23. The UT traffic police sent the challan to the court and also attached the background details of the offender with it. The offender was challaned twice earlier on June 17, 2013, and August 9, 2013.

Thieves con residents, steal laptops
Chandigarh, October 17 In both the cases which occurred in a short span of time in the afternoon at the Sector 17 parking lots, miscreants fled with laptop bags. They diverted the attention of the car owners by throwing money on a road and asking addresses. A Sector 38 resident and a psychotherapist, Simar Onkar, had gone to a salon in Sector 17. He carried his laptop along. On return, he kept the laptop bag in the rear seat. As he got into his vehicle, a youth tapped on his car's window and said he had dropped his money on the ground while simultaneously pointing towards the notes lying on the road. Simar got out of the vehicle and noticed Rs 10 and Rs 20 denomination notes lying on the road. "At first I thought, the money was mine. But then as I picked the notes, I realised that they were not mine as they totalled Rs 240. I looked around but could not find anyone. I thought I would donate the money. On reaching Sector 34, I realised that the rear door of my car was open and the laptop bag was missing which also contained my Apple iPad," he said. Simar then called up the police. A case of theft under Section 379 of the IPC was registered. He also handed over the money amounting to Rs 240 to a head constable there. A Maloya resident, Bhishan Singh, reported to the police that someone had stolen a laptop form his car (PB-29H-7550) parked near the MC office in Sector 17. He said someone asked an address from his driver. After giving the directions, he realised that the laptop was missing.
Gunshot fired
A dispute between two families in Burail turned awry when one of the family members fired a gunshot into the air. The police has registered a case. Police sources said there was an ongoing dispute between Chunky Shah and Monty Shah. They were in an inebriated state when Monty Shah opened fire following the scuffle. The other party called the police.

Chaos marks Day 1 of athletics meet
Mohali, October 17 Following the protest, the first day of the three-day meet was disrupted for over two hours. Physical training instructors complained to the District Education Officer, Mohali, about the behavior of the AEO along with four teachers. They alleged that the assistant education officer was under the influence of alcohol. They sought action to be initiated against the official at the earliest. “We want the authorities concerned to take an immediate action,” said a teacher. Chandigarh, October 17 The winning side registered a 30-24 win against the rivals. Earlier, Haryana defeated Chandigarh 36-27 to finish third in the same competition. Rajwant did it for Punjab. He scored 16 goals. She was supported by Maninder, who scored five goals. Hempreet Kaur (four goals), Vanita (three goals), Ramanjot Kaur (two goals) and Harvinder (one goal) were the other main contributors to the team's win.
