Get plots regularised by tomorrow or face legal action, says DC
Fatehgarh Sahib, October 5 The officials have also been asked to help plot holders fill the applications, so that the formalities may be completed within the stipulated time, said Arun Sekhri, Deputy Commissioner, while addressing the meeting of district officials here today. He said as per the August 21 notification of the state government, it has become mandatory to get the illegal colonies regularised, so that all the basic amenities could be provided to the residents. “Besides the colonisers, all the plot holders in these colonies are also required to get their plots regularised by depositing the prescribed charges by October 7,” said the Deputy Commissioner. He said if any coloniser did not apply for the regularisation of colony, an FIR would be registered against him and criminal proceedings would be initiated. “Sewer and electricity connections will also be disconnected, if an individual fails to apply for the regularisation,” said the Deputy Commissioner. |

Lok Adalat: 10 inmates set free
Ambala, October 5 Rajesh, a resident of Barara, who was lodged in the jail for past several months on charges of creating nuisance after consuming liquor, was acquitted. Similarly, Dadu Lal, a resident of Meerut, was in judicial custody for carrying illicit liquor, was set free from the jail. Other acquitted included Shankar, a resident of Delhi, and Aman Kumar, Balkar Singh and Anil, all residents of Ambala City. They all were involved either in theft or other minor cases. The Chief Judicial Magistrates released them from the jail only after the acquitted assured that they would not commit any offence in future. Speaking on the occasion, Jain said the courts made every possible effort to settle down the cases at the earliest, but decision over petite cases were usually delayed due to a tight schedule and heavy workload. He added that the Lok Adalat is the best medium for disposing off such petty cases. |

12 taken ill after consuming adulterated flour in Ambala
Ambala, October 5 Four members of a family Savitri Devi, Sanni, Surbhi and Monika, all residents of Baldev Nagar area were admitted to Sasan Nursing Home, Baldev Nagar, this evening. All were reported to be suffering from diarrohea and vomiting. Savitri said she had bought the flour from a shop in Baldev Nagar. Three residents of Asa Singh Garden, Gulshan, Versha and Rakhi were also undergoing treatment at Sasan Nursing Home after consuming the flour. Civil Surgeon Vinod Gupta said hospitals had made all necessary arrangements for such patients in the trauma center. “A team of doctors has already been deployed at the trauma center to cater to such patients,” said Gupta. |
Senior HC lawyer gets into trouble
Chandigarh, October 5 The notice was issued after a high drama took place in the courtroom. It all started when the senior lawyer was summoned by a single bench in a case in which he was appearing for one of the parties. The lawyer came clad in a kurta pyjama. Although the judge retired to his chamber, the lawyer refused to change his stand. After the judge resumed court work, an argument took place, after which the Judge issued the notice, and referred the matter to the Chief Justice.

Four rounded up in kidnapping case
Mohali, October 5 Two youths from Mohali, Jagdish Singh and Ravinder Singh, were allegedly kidnapped in an Audi car belonging to one of the victims from Sector 70. However, the police caught up with the suspects after the car being used in the crime got stuck in a snarl-up in Sector 45 in Chandigarh. The victims had alleged that the kidnappers took away some cash from the dashboard of the car and also made them sign the transfer papers of the vehicle. They also alleged that a ransom of Rs 10 lakh was demanded by the kidnappers. — OC |

Three stabbed, robbed of cash
Chandigarh, October 5 All the three victims have been admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The police has registered a case at the Sector 31 police station. In another incident, Kamini Gupta, a resident of Sector 15-A, reported that an unknown motorcycle-borne man sped away after snatching her bag containing a mobile phone and Rs 9,000 from near her house. A briefcase containing important documents was stolen in broad daylight today from a car parked at the Sector 40-C market. A few hours later, some commuters found the briefcase deserted on the Kurali road. Satinder Batish, a resident of Sector 40, had gone to the market to withdraw money from an ATM. On returning to his car, he was shocked to see the windowpane of the rear door broken and his briefcase missing from the car. “It is surprising that someone managed to break the windowpane and steal the briefcase in broad daylight, and that too when a police beat box is situated just a few metres away,” said Batish. Batish file a complaint with the police. A few hours later, however, he received a call from some unknown person, who informed him that his briefcase was lying near the Kurali road. “That person handed over the briefcase with all the documents to the police at Ropar,” said Batish.
Court rejects appeal
Panchkula: The court today rejected the appeal of Swami Aseemanand regarding the B-class facilities in the jail. He had moved an application requesting for B-class facilities, but he was not given any respite. Aseemanand is lodged in the Ambala Jail. Aseemanand, a member of right-wing Hindu group Abhinav Bharat, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation from Haridwar in Uttarakhand for his alleged role in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blasts in Hyderabad, in which 14 persons were killed. The NIA had questioned Aseemanand about his role in Samjhauta Express blasts in February 18, 2007, at Diwana village near the industrial town of Panipat, 160 km from here. The bombing took place in two bogies of Samjhauta Express, a peace train between India and Pakistan. The train was going from Delhi to Attari, the last station on the Indian side. |
