Smack worth Rs 65 lakh seized
Ambala, September 29 Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinod Kaushik said, “Acting on a tip-off, the police laid nakas at various suspected area across the region. We got information that a person from Uttar Pradesh had come to the city to supply smack to some agent.” The accused, while crossing Kalka Chowk was stopped by the police and during the interrogation, the illegal drug was recovered. We are ascertaining if the accused is in any way connected with some inter-state smuggling gang, said Kaushik. Following the directions by Commissioner of Police Rajbir Deswal, a campaign was launched in Ambala Cantt and Ambala City against the narcotic smuggling. Mithu would be produced in the court tomorrow and the police would request the court for granting a police remand, said the DCP. Six booked for forgery Dera Bassi: Following the directions of the Dera Bassi court, the Lalru police has registered a case against six miscreants under the charges of forgery. The accused have been identified as Baldev Singh Ahluwalia, Tejdeep Singh Ahluwalia and his wife Veedulla Veerpal Kaur, Ranjit Singh, PS Pal and JP Pal, all residents of Sector 34, Chandigarh. Complaintant Harbans Singh, a resident of Almgir village, stated in his complaint that Baldev Singh Ahluwalia had duped him of Rs 80 lakh by forgery. The accused have been booked under Sections 406, 409, 420 and 120-B of the IPC. Investigations were on in this regard. |

DC bans digging of wells
Fatehgarh Sahib, September 29 Considering the increase in number of accidents and deaths due to drowning in the Bhakra canal, the DC has banned the movement of vehicles on the banks of the canal in the district. Cyber cafe owners have also been instructed to not to allow any person to use the facilities without submitting a valid ID proof. The DC has made it mandatory for all the landlords to submit a list mentioning the addresses of their tenants at the nearest police station. Sekhri has also imposed a ban on the plying of rickshaws, trolleys, tractors, cycles and every type of vehicle, moving without reflectors at night. Taking precautionary measures the DC has directed the instructions to guard towers, transmission lines, sub-station, railway lines, petrol pumps, canals, bridges, banks and post offices. The DC has also imposed a ban on playing loud music on loud speakers and orchestras at marriage palaces from 9 pm to 6 am. The loud speakers will be allowed only on low volume. The ban orders will remain in force till November 26. |

Dental society president honoured
Patiala, September 29 Dr Vinay Goyal was honoured by Dr Marwah and Dr DP Singh Nagra, chairman and co-founder of Punjabi Dental Society (USA). Marwah and Nagra requested Goyal to work with law makers of Punjab to put more emphasis on sterilisation and motivated him to continue practicing in rural areas of Punjab to safeguard the health of general public. Punjabi Dental Society, established in 1999 in the USA, has 3500 dentist members in California, with various chapters in other parts of the world as well.

Path opened after senior cops’ intervention in Kalka
Kalka, September 29 Gurdial Singh, a social worker and a former sarpach of the area, alleged that three months back, the pathway in the village was obstructed by Bala Ram, a resident of the same village. The villagers brought the matter into the notice of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kalka, following which the station house officer (SHO), Kalka, opened the pathway on July 19. But the constable again fenced the pathway. It was only after a delegation met the ADGP and DCP, who further issued directives to the local police administration to look into the matter. The pathway was opened for public only after the SHO, Kalka, confirmed the revenue record.

Himal bags chess title
Chandigarh, September 29 Himal secured 6.5 points to bag the championship for the seventh time Naveen Bansal with 5.5 points ended at second spot while Tarini Goyal of Sacred Heart School with 5.5 secured the third place in the competition. Madhya Pradesh team defeat ONGC in cricket
Chandigarh, September 29 After electing to bat first, the ONGC team was restricted to 195 runs in 49.5 overs. Prashant Bhandari and Suhail Sharma contributed 29 runs in their team’s total. For the MPCA team, Ankit Sharma remains the top wicket-taker by claiming 3 for 31 while Sanjay Mishra, Vijit Rana and Chander Kant Sakure claimed two wickets each. In their innings, the MPCA side scored 202 in 47.3 overs with openers Vikrant Singh and A Samad adding 75 runs for the first wicket before Vikrant was stumped by Ajay Ratara off Parveen for 26 runs. In the meanwhile, the match was stopped for a while with A Samad of the MPCA and bowler Waqar Ahmed of the ONGC indulged in heated arguments. Reportedly Ahmed, reacting on sledging, indulged in a verbal fight that the verbal fight took a serious turn. Acting on misbehavior on field, the field umpires penalised Waqar Ahmed for one session.
