Dr Chiranjit Parmar

Besides plums and apricots which are the commonly available in the market, there also exist a fruit which is a cross between both these fruits. This fruits was given the name, “pluot” in 1982 by Floyd Zaiger who created this fruit by crossing plum and apricots. He made many other similar crosses among other fruits in his fruit breeding company, Zaiger’s Genetics. Pluot, which has several varieties, is also a registered trade mark of Zaiger’s Genetics. Externally pluots look more like a plum than an apricot.
