Sorry state of affairs at govt school
Dera Bassi, July 29 “The trees which were in the school premises have been axed without the permission of the departments concerned. The school building is in such a pitiable condition that it can collapse anytime. Even the funds meant for the purpose of the school welfare, had been misused,” said an official from the Sabha. Mohali, July 29 Yesterday, the police had claimed that the deceased had been identified as Mamta, Ludhiana-based painter Dharminder's wife, who had gone missing on March 26. Today Dharminder, who was summoned by the police to identify the body in the town, denied the deceased was his wife. Dharminder, who came along with his relatives and friends from his native place Kalanaur, near Rohtak, in Haryana, claimed that it was not his wife's body as one of her front teeth was artificial. "Apart from that there was a big mole on my wife's leg, which is not there on the dead body," claimed Dharminder. Dharminder also claimed there was no tattoo on his wife's arm while the body had "Dharminder" tattooed in Hindi. The parents of Dharminder's wife did not turn up to identify the body. A police official claimed that they refused to turn up as their daughter had eloped with Dharminder. Mohali SP Swarndeep Singh said the police would check the veracity of Dharminder's statement. The police had rounded up the domestic help employed at the victim’s residence. The police added Kamaldeep had raised suspicion on certain persons who used to visit his house frequently. “We will question these persons soon,” said the police. Chandigarh, July 29 “I am working hard in morning and evening sessions. In addition to sharpen my shot selections and batting skills, I am also undergoing nets during afternoon sessions. The tournament is an important platform to perform and I am leaving no stone unturned to achieve laurels,” said Prashant. The 20-year-old lad, who plays for Himachal Pradesh, also hogged the limelight after his contribution for the India’s Under-19 squad that won the World Cup. His father, Shiv Chopra, is appointed as a cricket coach with the UT Sports Department. “My feat at in Junior World cup helped me to attain a place in this 15-memeber squad and I would like to end my upcoming Under-23 years on the same note. Our team will be facing tough competitors and I am looking forward to playing well,” said he. The Indian team is scheduled to face Pakistan, (August 18), Nepal (August 20) and Afghanistan (August 22), in their opening league encounters. “Being a cricketer, there always remain high expectations. UT sports wing trials from Aug 5
Chandigarh, July 29 Last year, the sports department had allocated 660 seats of the sports wing in the schools and Sports Coaching Centres. The players attaining first three positions in the state level, inter-school and state open championship will be eligible to enroll under sports wings. The Coaching Centres, trials is scheduled to be held on August 5 and 6 (3:30 pm onwards). The sports wings at the Coaching Centres will start from August 16 to February 28, 2014 while at schools it will start from August 1, 2013 to January 31, 2014. The sports wings will provide nutritious diet during the training programme everyday. GMSSS-22 trounce Saupin’s School in soccer
Chandigarh, July 29 Building pressure from the very first minute, the winning side started penetrating the rival’s defense on regular intervals. Soon, the team tasted success with left half back Deepshikha scoring the first goal, through an awarded penalty kick, in the 12th minute of the match. She strikes again with edge pasting the left full back in the 32nd minute to put her team ahead by 2-0. After lemon break, striker Anjali, with her power run, posted the third goal in the 39th minute. Restoring the match, the Saupin’s School reduced the margin through Tanya in the 41st minute, when custodian of the winning side failed to grip a diverted shot. The forms can be obtained from the office of the District Sports Officer at the Sports Complex, Sector 42, principals of colleges, the office of District Education Officer (DEO), secretaries of state sports associations and from the office of the Director, Sports, Panjab University. Chandigarh, July 29 Bowler Treyaksh Bali claimed 3 wickets for 11 runs. Karan (2 for 16 runs) and Angad (2 for 17) were the other main wicket takers for the team.
