If fashion was static, we wouldn't have seen a pair of denims oscillate between the bell bottoms and tapered shapes, it's length altering with the change of season; suits wouldn't have varied from anarkalis to straight to the ones with asymmetric hemlines, and the bridal affair would have been strictly about three pieces of clothing--lehanga, choli and duppatta. It's the fluidity of fashion that introduced us to the bridal couture that went beyond the conventional and brought into picture, anarkali gowns, lehanga sarees, saree jackets, anarkali with trousers and much more. Through strikingly beautiful collections of Shane and Falguni Peacock and Raghavendra Rathore, the day three of Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week once again add variety to the brides' and groom's wardrobe and even the ones who are gearing up for the wedding season. While the focus of Shane and Falguni's collection, Garden of Eden, is on digital, floral prints, Raghavendra's ensemble celebrates the opulence of royalty and heritage with vivid colours.

Flower power
Shane and Falguni Peacock

Garden of Eden, as the name suggests, it aims to celebrate nature through floral motifs, vintage laces, feathers. The headgear done with flowers again was an interesting accessory. The colour palette of the collection ranges from red, pink and gold. The duo has extensively used chantilly lace, velvet and net as the base material but it is the layers added to the creations that breaks stereotype of a flowing gown. The twin layers seen on Neha Dhupia's outfit and a multilayered dull orange net saree called the kalidar saree, are certainly the high points of their ensemble. Beside gowns, their collection also comprises anarkalis, pharsi pyjamas, sarees teamed with bustier, halters and shrugs. Well, didn't we say earlier that fashion is not static!

Gowns & bandhgalas
Raghavendra Rathore

Known for constructing structured clothes, Raghavendra Rathore once again brings on the ramp creations that are defined by silhouettes than works and embellishments. Staying away from producing lehanga as a part of the collection, he says, "It was a conscious effort. That is what we have been doing since ages-constructing lehangas as a part of the couture wear." The collection boasts of gowns, jacket sarees for women and achkan and bandhgalas for men, reminiscing the royal times during The Raj.

The colour scheme is bright, be it red, pink, wine and the use of colours is not just limited to women wear, but also embraces the men wardrobe with aplomb. A bright purple bandhgala jacket over a neon pink kurta teamed with white churidaars is reflective of the metrosexual man's wardrobe preferences. Even the gowns in the collection, which he calls, "Indian versions" of the most popular red carpet outfit in the west have minimal work on the torso area. It's the use of fabric that defines his couture collection. Fabric for the entire collection have been sourced the popular textile destinations of India. Silk has been extensively in gowns and that has come from Benaras to ensure that the Indian look stays intact and a pinch of western look is added through element such as bolero jacket.

United they Rock !
The band Ehsaas believes in making music which touches one's heart, music that makes one feel
Manpriya Singh

He didn't go greedy with the huge round of applause as a solo artist. Nor was the title of one man army quite cutting it. "Through solo performances and practices I was not being able to achieve this unique sound that I wanted. Moreover, one man army was not what I really enjoyed. If I wanted our product to be much richer, I had to bring in more people," lead vocalist Suryaveer goes through the reasons behind his hit and trial search operation to form a core team of five members. In walked Waseem Ahmed, Sufi Sohail, Nishant Rastogi and Shoaib bringing in different influences and experiences.

Together it's been two-and-a-half-years of travelling and making music. Their kind of music. "If I just had to restrict our music in a particular genre, I would say it's Indi-rock. Otherwise, we have right from the rock elements to sufi to pop elements in our compositions," he shares, while in Chandigarh for a performance at The Blue Blazer. He adds, "We aim at making music which touches your hearts, music that makes you feel." Other than the compositions from their recent album Suryaveer with Ehsaas, the audience gets to listen to some of the covers and even requests. "We just take the call then and there. It depends on the crowds."

It's a second stint in the city or as they like to call it, the "first official performance for public." The reception that mainstream commercial music brings along, helps. "I would say we are into very commercial music. The kind that masses can relate to."

That explains the already countless shows to their credit. "We must have done at least 700 to 800 shows and travelled as far as China, UK, Thailand, Singapore, Goa…," shares the NCR-based artiste. To make up for any uncovered territories, coming up is a road trip this September. "We'll be starting from the North and ending in Mumbai."

Then there is something that each of them is looking forward to. Shares Suryaveer, "We are doing a main song in an upcoming movie, Prague. The song Aye Zindagi has been borrowed from our album and will be used for promotions and in the movie has been featured on us too." Touching the classic from the film Sadma, came with its own set of apprehensions. "It's a day of experimental music. If you look at Coke Studio, they have also reworked on classics only."

The final remix remains just as slow as the original. "The lyrics and the tempo are the same, we've given a sufi twist by using western instruments with Indian reggaes."

After they finish performing for the crowds, each of them goes back to their play lists. Out comes, the likes of, "Kishore Kumar, AR Rahman and Michael Jackson." One of them is a hard-core Junoon fan. Shares yet another, "I like lots of instrumental classical and George Benson." Like, we said, each of them brings in their own influences.

It’s all about entertainment
When regional film producer Junaid Memon decides to venture into Punjabi film industry and dish out an entertainer titled Yaar Mera Rab Warga, he picks up Lakwinder Singh, Gurmeet Chaudhary and Neetu Singh to fulfill his mission

A man with salt and pepper hair, visibly composed walks to and fro. He pulls out his mobile, slips his finger on the screen, puts it away after a while and then resumes his stroll. In between he stops to pose for the lensman. A guide (this is a new sect in Punjabi cinema called the Punjabi film tour guide) whispers the man's claim to fame in your ear. Junaid Memon is the producer of the Punjabi film starring Lakhwinder Singh of Mitti fame, Neetu Singh and Gurmeet Chaudhary.

Junaid has earlier produced many films in Bhojpuri, Hindi, Marathi and this is his first venture in Punjabi cinema. This Mumbai man arrives on time unaware of what GMT means to Punjabis. But this doesn't stop him from being excited.

"I have produced many films before, so I am not new to this field. This is my first Punjabi film as a producer and I am glad I ventured into this," says Junaid, who does thorough ground works before taking up any film.

"I watched 10 hit Punjabi films and 10 flop ones so that I don't make mistakes others made. Nevertheless, there is a chance of going wrong, but this is what learning is all about." Junaid is interested in making films that entertain. "At the end it is the audience that decides whether to watch the film or not, my idea is to make an entertaining film." Yaar Mera Rab Warga is ready for a September release.

The lead actor Lakhwinder Singh is the second person from the cast to arrive on time. With the actress Neetu Singh nowhere to be seen, you can't help but look at the watch. Running an hour and a half late, probably the actress lost her way or just getting ready for the D-day! So we strike a conversation with Lakhwinder, who has written the script. "When I am writing a script, all the characters are equally important, and when I am acting I have to concentrate on my acting. This is the challenge of actor writer," shares Lakhwinder, who doesn't believe in following the herd mentality. "I don't have any problem with comedy, however, I enjoy doing serious roles, those with some substance," he says. Lakhwinder has written another Punjabi film Full Fukrey and acting in it too.

Time to shift the radar on the pretty face, Neetu Singh, who by the way has learnt Tai-kwon-do. You dare not ask her the reason for being late! "I want to do an action movie," says Neetu who is playing the leading lady of the film. "Both Gurmeet and Lakhwinder are fabulous actors. Gurmeet is the next Shah Rukh Khan of Punjabi film industry and Lakhwinder stays in the character throughout the movie," adds Neetu.

Director producer Shoojit Sircar, who is ready with Madras Café, believes in making films that are content driven

How did Madras Café happen?

I was working on this script much before Vicky Donor. We were working under the tentative title Jafana. Once we moved over Vicky Donor, we were on with Madras Café.

John Abraham, Nargis Fakri, Siddharth Basu, Piyush Pande-you have an interesting cast.

Casting is an important aspect of my films. John and Nargis both fit the roles pretty well. John plays a straightforward intelligence guy, Nargis is a war correspondent. It's not an action film but lots of mind game, a political thriller I will call it. John and Nargis will surprise you!

How challenging was the film?

Making a film on a sensitive issue, I tried not taking sides. The story is told by an intelligence officer's point of view, what he sees, experiences and finds. The most challenging was to create the civil war milieu since we shot the film in India.

Vicky Donor was a smashing success, what do you feel about it today?

I was pleasantly surprised that people lapped up the rather taboo subject. I didn't expect everyone to see it, but they are still talking about it and that makes me happy.

Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari and Ayushman Khurana have been associated with you. Your take on them.

I have been working with Dolly Ji from my very first film Yahaan. She is a dear friend. In fact, she makes the whole unit happy. Ayushman is still young but he is an effortless actor. We will do more films together.

Who inspires you?

I have a theatre background. In fact, I am still associated with the group Act 1. Satyajit Ray and Hollywood inspires me. I want to make lots of films, mostly content driven!

Break ke baad

Amitabh Bachchan says that all is well on the health front. He talks about his upcoming movie, working with Prakash Jha and much more.

Back on the track

I am shooting for a fewer films now because of my health issues and I had to take a break because I underwent a surgery. I have been shooting all along for KBC. All is well on the health front now.

While in Bhopal

We were fortunate to shoot the majority of the movie Satyagraha in Bhopal. It is a wonderful place and a welcoming city. The crowds were not a problem either because they were helpful and well-mannered. They did not interfere or hamper the shooting at all.

On Prakash Jha

We are all hungry to do good work and we work with everybody. Everybody facesAmitabh Bachchan failure and success and that is not the criteria to do films. One gets disappointed if our work is not appreciated but then you strive harder to make up for the lost opportunity. I signed Satyagrah for the sheer joy of working with Prakashji.

Today and yesterday

I think today's directors are more professional and have lots of technical know-how. So many different films are being made and there is so much freshness. Cinema is now propagated by youth and I admire the new filmmakers. The older filmmakers have their own ways and concepts of filmmaking and it is not that they are not good. We had a lot of time earlier but today everybody is looking for speedy solutions. Films are wrapped up in record time.

Personal and professional

You step out and there are a billion cameras facing you. Actors cannot really protect their personal lives today. There is so much social media, so many events and so much accessibility, which was not there earlier. Everybody has cameras on their phones so anybody can take a picture anywhere. We have learnt to take it in our stride.
All is well: Amitabh Bachchan

Sahnu Rab ney banaya Maharajey, aaya main gaddi mod key…We are hoping throughout the movie that the singing Romeo, Jazzy B doesn’t break in his Yo Man style. Thankfully, he does nothing like this. In fact, even with his Mowhawk hair died in blue, and his red and black pants in place, Jazzy B as Goli delivers an appreciable performance in his debutant movie Best Of Luck. The film is directed by Manmord Sidhu, stars Gippy Grewal, Simran Mundi, Jazzy B, Binnu Dhillon, Sonam Bajwa, Karamjit Anmol and Puneet Issar.

The film makes no hue and cry of not falling into the comic genre. But this is for the first time that we have our own Punjabi Robinhood, Jazzy B as Goli. The director has made good use of his actors, Gippy Grewal and Binnu Dhillon. He has left the comic angle on them, which the two manage to nail pretty well. The movie has its own pace, and meanders through highs and lows. One doesn’t feel the bump too much because it is cushioned by a lot of comedy. If you love solving puzzles, this is not the one you should lay your hands on. Something’s are better left untouched!

Just like Jazzy B. The director knows his characters well, so Jazzy B does not have too many dialogues, only action. “Main bolda ghat han, tey sunda tan bilkul nai… Jazzy B’s dialogue in the film justifies his act. As for Gippy Grewal, he is an actor who provides comedy, romance and music. What else can you ask for? Binnu Dhillon with some ‘punching’ dialogues steals the show. Simran Mundi and Sonam Bajwa are there, and this is again more than enough. They smile, dress up nicely, cry when they are asked to. What else do you want? Did someone say acting? Well, something’s are better left unsaid. Of all the actors, you expect a little more from Puneet Issar. If you have been following Punjabi movies by choice then you will finally get to see the writer Naresh Kathuria act in the movie. His words can make people laugh, but his act needs to be supported with more humorous dialogues. Best Of Luck definitely needs more luck with a story.

The film has some foot-tapping music, which is expected of Gippy Grewal and Jazzy B. You have enough reasons to watch the movie, nevertheless Best Of Luck for that!

Smart take

I liked the film. It's unusual and in your face kind! Not only does it live up to the title but the characters of the film have also done complete justice to the plot of the film. It's a film for those who are witty and have a good sense of humour.

It's different

It's a good film and realistic too. I like the film because of the humour and Dolly Ahluwalia has really done a great job. It's a different kind of cinema that falls in the genre of films like Khosla ka Ghosla. It was totally worth the watch.
