Filmy fundas
A couple of months back he thought of watching an on going cricket match on television. It was then that he noticed that the subscription for the channels had finished. In fact, his television set has not been working for the last three years. Now what kind of a person would he be? Well, someone who doesn't feel that he is missing out on something great happening around the world, or someone who isn't craving to be on the top of every Bollywood teaser and songs. Remo Fernandes falls in the second category. He likes Bollywood, but this doesn't stop him from looking at something beyond it.
In Chandigarh along with the cast of Love U Soniyo, Neha Hinge (Miss India 2010), Tanuj Virwani (Rati Agnihotri's son) and actor Jatin Grewal, Remo rates his score 0 out of 100 in spoken Hindi, but in music, he definitely gets a 100 on 100.
Chance discovery
Tanuj Virwani never thought he would be an actor, not with those spectacles, bad skin and extra flab. Today, he can't go unnoticed. Tarun Virwani is all set for his acting debut with Love U Soniyo. Despite the tag of star son, this lad is all out to prove the industry that you don't need a sugar daddy to survive. "Of course my mother can recommend me, but later it is me who has to prove myself. My mother, like any other mother is always there to support me," shares Tanuj who admires Robert De Niro. Like any other newcomer though he has chosen a romantic genre. "Romance will stay as long as we love each other. So this genre makes all the sense. I am willing to take up different roles once I prove myself." Tanuj is already working on his next film Purani Jeans. "Here I am, let's see what next."
All that logic
The study of the philosophy of life through logic - this is the study that actor Jatin Grewal specialises in. He has been using this science to understand why certain things happen in life. Any inference? He smiles, "I have my own rhythm in life. I can't be like others; I get lured by actors and all the glamour. However, the question is whether I need it," explains Jatin who plays an army officer in the movie. He is not in a hurry to reach anywhere, thanks to scientology. "I do things that I enjoy; I do films because I like to be a part of them." Apart from his upcoming Punjabi film Desi Boys, Jatin runs Café Lambretta, a restaurant in Goa. "I do things I want to," he puts it plain and
simple.
More than Bollywood
Remo Fernandes, the singer who gave the sensational Humma song in Mani Ratnam's Bombay believes in using music as a tool for the betterment of society. Dressed in carefree Goan style, blue pajamas and blue tee, Remo doesn't think he has been missing from the music scene. "I might have not done much work in Bollywood off late, but there are other music related projects that are keeping me busy. I am a singer, a composer and I feel music can be used as a weapon for change," he shares. Remo has composed and sung songs for various social issues like against corruption, for Anna Hazare and for the Election Commission. You don't hear him go ga ga over films and his upcoming projects. "I understand in India Bollywood is very important, but there are other things beyond it, private music is one such thing. I have my work with foreign labels." Remo misses the whole private music scenario in the country. "Very few singers are doing private albums; record labels are also not promoting singers. Singers are singing for films, poets are writing for films, where is the individual scenario," adds the singer who is influenced by the world music and Beatles. As for Love U Soniyo, the title track has been written in four different languages. "I love the whole feel of the movie, which is why I am a part of it."
Walk of Fame
From a software engineer to winning the Miss India 2010 crown to playing the lead actress in Love U Soniyo, Neha Hinge has just flowed with wherever time has taken. "Nothing was planned, none of the events in my life. I have had a wonderful experience with everything," says Neha excited to see her name on the banner. "I was skeptical about acting, not everyone gets a solo star movie with such a nice cast and director, so I said yes to the project."

On the go, always
Following her dream, Radhika Bangia, has continued her journey in India, her country of birth and New Zealand, where she was brought up. Put a travel show in between that she's been anchoring, Radhika is living a busy life!
In Chandigarh, for Annual Passing Out Fashion show of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design, Chandigarh, this Kiwi beauty talked about her passion for Bollywood that pulled her from the closed, secure life she was leading with her parents in Auckland to travails of city of dreams, Mumbai.
"I am fascinated by the films and thought of giving it a good try," says Radhika who landed up in movie Meri Shaadi Karao. The response to the movie was 'so so' but that hasn't deterred Radhika from chasing her dreams. And, she thanks god for a supportive family. "My parents do get worried about me like all parents do. But they have faith in me and find me 'responsible'." She misses living with her family but for the growth of her career, she is ready to compromise with the comforts of life and explore newer territories. Mumbai is way different from her hometown Auckland, but this gutsy girl has made it hers. "Compared to metropolitans like Mumbai, Tokyo or Los Angeles, Auckland is rather easy, quiet and safe." On glamour industry being challenging and stakes high, says Radhika, "There would be good people, bad people, weird people everywhere. I have managed to steer clear of awkward situations so far." Radhika is here to stay in India for sometime more, work is decent and opportunities aplenty. She is as much hoping to land into good films as other hopefuls like hers. mona@tribunemail.com

I am not that keen on movies: Adaa
That her show, Amrit Manthan is on a fag end, Adaa Khan, who is essaying the role of an antagonist, Amrit, recollects her journey on the show and she is looking forward for a refreshing break.
Amrit Manthan had a good run and is now ending. What do you feel about it? It feels sad that a show that you have been with for so long is now ending. We had been hearing that the show will go off air since a year and the conformation came along about a month ago. Our last day of shoot is on August 2. I am glad I was able to fulfil my mom’s dream of winning an award with this show and to work with Rajan sir. What did you feel about playing a double role at the last leg of the show? It was a lot of fun. I’m enjoying the Haryanvi character a lot. This is the first time that I am playing a double role, so it’s all the more exciting. My character is that of a loud girl and she is a complete opposite of Amrit, who is subtle and classy. The role of Amrit was perhaps the first female antagonist, who was the lead of the show. What do you have to say about it? Amrit is different from other character that we see on television and Rajan sir intimated me about the fact that no other actor in the television has essayed this role before. He was certain about me being able to pull this role after he saw me in my earlier show, Behenein. Initially, Amrit was a grey character, but later she became negative. What are your future plans? I don’t want to do another negative role. My mom was not very happy to see me as Amrit. I want a regular romantic role in my next show. Are there any films in the offering? I am not that keen on movies as I am not very ambitious. I prefer to maintain a low profile.

A big round of applause
Divya Dutta has delivered some of the most challenging performances with extreme ease. The latest one being the character of Farhan Akthar's sister Isri in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Her performance in the film certainly takes it to another level. We caught up with her to talk about her character, the film and much more...
You have worked with Rakesh Omprakash Mehra in several films. Do you think he brings out the best in you? That's what everyone believes. One thing I've noticed is that he always gives me the toughest character. I think it's that belief which just transforms on screen. I have always treasured working with him. How has the response been to your character in the film? It has been overwhelming. I have received praises before too but this is something else. The calls and congratulatory messages just haven't stopped. It is storming, especially on Twitter. Personally speaking, are you enjoying the attention? I am a single woman and definitely enjoying the attention at the moment. If the right guy comes along then we will see. Your fans were apparently upset with your role in Lootera. Why? It was a small role but because of unavoidable circumstances it had to be cut off. Hence, I was given a special appearance. Things like this happen. Is it true that you have decided to stay away from special appearances? I am someone who has probably made more out of such roles. I've always accepted such roles and given them my best. For example, my role in Special 26 was small but it was loved and appreciated by people. I don't mind small or big roles but I don't want people, who love me as an actor, to feel that my talent has gone wasted. What's next for you? I've a Hollywood film, which I cannot tell you at the moment. I've a few Bollywood films too, which I cannot reveal. I am reading some good scripts so I'll be able to tell you better after I finish reading them.

Laugh your blues away
Renee Singh Sometimes a good laugh can suck the tension right off from our lives. Much research has gone into laughter to keep you motivated into a stress free zone. Even I could say that the moment I realised that I could laugh about the things that stressed me the most, I felt more in control of my life. Research has also shown that the health benefits of laughter are huge. So far studies have shown us that laughter can help relieve pain, bring greater happiness and also boost the immune system. Positive psychology
The propensity for laughter has been named as one of the twenty four signature strengths that a person can possess. Laughter yoga clubs
Laughter has become a major source of joy and people are actually making an organised effort to create and maintain a good amount of laughter in their lives. However we have also noticed that a lot of people don't get enough laughter in their lives. It has been seen from one study that healthy children may laugh as much as 400 times a day but adults only laugh 15 times a day. Frankly I feel that all of us could do with more laughter in the day considering how beneficial a good laugh can be for us. Benefits of laughter
nLaughter significantly reduces the levels of stress hormones and increases the level of health enhancing hormones. It also leads to a stronger immune system and fewer physical effects of stress. nA good belly laugh exercises the diaphragm, contracts the abs and works on your shoulders, making the muscles more relaxed. It provides good exercise to the heart. Laughter takes away the focus from anger, guilt, stress and other negative emotions in a beneficial way. nThere is always a very relaxed and cleansed feeling after a laugh. Laughter provides a good physical and emotional release. nOur response to certain events can be altered by whether we view something as a ''threat or a challenge''. Humour gives us a more light-hearted perspective and helps us to view events as challenges. This seems to make them less threatening and more positive. nLaughter is contagious. It can actually connect us with people around. By elevating the mood of people around you, you can reduce their stress levels and perhaps improve the quality of social interaction with them. In this way you reduce your own stress levels even more. Laughter is an all time favourite strategy for stress management, as it is free, convenient and beneficial. We can follow a few simple strategies to create more laughs in our lives. TV and movies
Watching hilarious movies and TV shows is an easy way to get more laughs into your lives. Laugh with friends
Having friends over for a party or game night is a great stress buster and a known recipe for good feelings. Cracking jokes and narrating funny incidents does create fun in life. Find humour in your life
Instead of complaining about life's frustrations, learn to laugh on them. Approach life in a more positive way and you'll find yourself less negative about negative events. Maintain a sense of humour
With a light-hearted attitude, events which may seem annoying turn into amusing and absurdly humorous events. Major stressors can also be perceived in such a way that you can laugh them off. Turning your stressors into positive happy feelings is very much in your own control. Allow humour to take over your life and enjoy happiness by laughing and making others laugh too. Repeat yourself
Sukhmani Doing the same thing over and over again is boring, right? Well, no. In interior designing, if you know how to use repetition to your advantage, you can actually create unity among your various accents and furnishings in the room. Unless you are buying everything in a room from one place, there are bound to be differences in everything you put in a room. To tie the whole look together, you need to use repetition or else you will end up with a décor that does not please the eye. Repetition is one of the fundamentals of great design, creating a sense of rhythm and consistency in a way that few other elements can. Repetition can be in the form of colour, a pattern or texture, materials etc. For example, a row of framed pieces of the same size with similar subjects creates a pattern. Repeating the rectangular shape of the frames in the shape of a table and chair and maybe in the pattern on the area rug reinforces the pattern and creates a rhythm moving around the room. Patterns are repeated obviously and sometimes very subtly around the room creating a pleasing rhythm. While relying on a motif or pattern can make it easier to pull a look together, be careful to not have too much of a good thing. A way to give even more power to the repeating design element is to introduce some contrast. For example if you are repeating an oval pattern in a room, use an occasional square shape to break the monotony.
Repetition is one of the tools used in design to reinforce a concept. It helps provide continuity, aids in making a statement, and celebrates that one element that is worth repeating. When developing a colour palette, make your eye move around the room comfortably by repeating a colour. For example if you love lime green but don't want the entire room to scream lime green use small amounts of the colour through the room in different ways. A good way to achieve repetition is through items purchased in pairs, art, accessories, pillows, curtains, candles, glassware and threads in textiles or rugs. While you can run into trouble with doing too much with this one, repeating different elements can be a great way to simultaneously create a sense of uniformity and diversity in a room. However, you may not want to repeat more than two or three decor aspects to avoid creating an overly busy interior. Anyone looking for a calm and collective home should consider consistent patterns not just in one room, but from one room to the next as well. Hint of colour
Manpriya Singh Sometimes rosy cheeks do the trick instead of rosy lips. There is a world of a difference between flushed cheeks and flashy cheeks. Getting the blush right is half the battle won. Renowned make up author Bobbi Brown has always believed in less rather than more. "Always apply a brighter blush with a lighter hand rather than a lighter blush with a heavier hand." For those that want their blush to last longer, she further suggests a couple of tips and tricks. "Start with a cream blush. Use it as a base and then top it off with a powder blush in a slightly brighter shade. This will last longer." A little flash of colour on the cheeks can go completely on its own with very little accompanying make up. Robert Jones, iconic author and make up expert, corrects on the exact use of blush. "Blush is not meant to contour your face with. Nor does it reshape your face or cheekbones. Blush adds a little life and colour on the face." What the artists say
Like all things else, a lot depends on the shape of the face and the texture of the skin. "If you have dry skin, we recommend cream blush and if someone has oily skin, then powder blush is better," shares Anu Sharma, senior make-up artist, Lakme. Those pining for hollow cheeks and illusion of a thinner face can apply the blush along the cheekbones and towards the ears. She adds, "If one wants to highlight cheekbones, one should brush out towards the nose. Once can also smile and apply blush on the raised cheeks. This generally suits all shapes." When all else fails and nothing seems to work out, there's the smile theory of blush. And the best thing about blush being, once you get it right, there's little else that can go wrong. Blush can stand completely on its own and obviates the need for elaborate eyes, lips, jawline. Guess, that sums it up. manpriya@tribunemail.com

A spirited number
You still haven't plunged into the flavours of the season, if you have not heard the latest song by Miley Cyrus, We Can't Stop. The song is a single from her upcoming fourth studio album that will be released in September this year. We Can't Stop is a pop, R&B and dance song that lyrically talks of a house party. Cyrus described the song as "more funky and R&B, pop". Pop in time
That the pop lost its sheen as the 90s, I had given up on good pop songs. But this one is evidently the kind that is kicking in a new trend. — Manpreet Singh, student Sound that matters
I like the music and particularly for the energy it exudes. I like the beats too. The sound of this song has all the spunk and lyrics are good!
— Namrita Sachdeva, student Can't stop listening
Well, this song has been playing in my car ever since I listened to it . It is infectious and every time you listen to it, you just can not stop humming it.

Farhan’s successful run…
Farhan Akhtar returned to his school in Juhu last week and was overwhelmed by the number of children and teachers he had to meet and greet. That's sweet that he is enjoying his new-found stardom.

Small screen calling
Talented and versatile actor, Harsh Chhaya, who has proved his talent in films will now once again be seen on TV. He is in talks with Star Plus for a show which is apparently based on Bollywood film Khoon Bhari Mang.
What’s going on?
Buzz is that after Drashti Dhami broke off with her boyfriend, Neeraj Khemka, she has grown fond of her choreographer Salman Yusuff Khan in Colors’ Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Their chemistry and performances are talked about a lot and there’s more than what meets the eye. Salman dismisses rumours and says he was linked with all his dance partners be it Yana Gupta or Isha
Sharvani.
And the plot thickens
The show, Madhubala–Ek Ishq Ek Junoon is in the headlines yet again as the audience will witness an interesting battle in the court room, where RK (Vivian Dsena), who has been put behind bars for shooting Sultan (Avinesh Rekhi), will have to stay in the jail for a longer period. With Vinay Apte (Shivdatta Marathe) and Naveen Saini (Mr Patil) will be seen at the loggerheads as lawyers, it seems that RK has miles to go before he is proven innocent. The first setback arrives when RK is not granted bail, even after his lawyer, Patil, tries his best. One of the major reasons for the bail to be rejected will be RK’s previous record, according to which he had misbehaved and had almost run his car over Mukund (Manish Naggdev), Madhu’s ex-lover. Will RK’s situation worsen or get better? Only time will tell.
Karan follows Rishi Kapoor
Sources from the set of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa tell us that Karan Johar told his father, Yash Johar, that he wanted to look like Rishi when he was a kid and badgered him to buy the same brand sweater that Rishi Kapoor was known to sport. With the contestants further preparing a special tribute for Rishi, the actor was touched and was seen thanking all profusely for their love and support.
