Litchi is a powerhouse many super ingredients. Studies by Zhejiang Gonshang University and Sichuan University, China, proved the fruit can prevent the growth of cancer cells. Litchi contains flavonoids, flavones, quercitin and kaemferol. These reduce the proliferation of cancer cells especially breast cancer. It contains a high amount of soluble fibre which protects from colon cancer. Litchi contains polyphenols which promote heart health. It normalises blood pressure and heart rate thereby protecting against strokes and coronary heart diseases. One glass of litchi juice daily normalises the heartbeat. People who eat litchis several times a week, have a 50 per cent less chance of having a heart attack than those who don’t. The fruit is a great source of vitamin C, B complex vitamins, folates, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and protein. The Chinese believe it can relieve pain and shrink swollen glands. Litchi also has oligonol in abundance, a polyphenol with anti-influenza virus actions. It also helps to improve blood circulation, reduces weight and protects the skin from UVA rays. It decreases deep fat and raises sideline blood circulation.
