The CBI had claimed that it had failed to find evidence to establish the charges against the accused in the case and the case should be closed. The report was filed last month and it was accepted today.

It was on May 28, 2011, when the CBI had registered a criminal case against former principal director VK Srivastava and chief executive officer Ramandeep Singh of the Directorate of Defence Estate (Western Command) and one Jaswinder Kaur, a resident of Punjab, on the charge of cheating and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Srivastava and Singh had allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 3 lakh for appointing Kaur as the sub-divisional officer (SDO-III). However, it was only Srivastava, Singh and Kaur who were pleaded as accused by the investigating agency.

As per sources, an incriminating audio conversation between Singh and Srivastava was made available to the CBI by another defence officer. The conversation was recorded on a mobile phone which was handed over to the agency. The case was registered by the CBI on the basis of source information.
