Zila Parishad polls in fatehgarh sahib
Fatehgarh Sahib, May 19 He further added that in Khamano block 65 per cent ,in Amloh block 72 per cent, in Fatehgarh Sahib block 75 per cent, in Bassi Pathana block 64 per cent and in Khera block 70 per cent polling was recorded. Sekhri expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements and congratulated the staff for conducting elections in free and fair manner. He said that 5102 police personnel and 3635 other staff members were employed for election duty. Sekhri added that counting of votes would take place on May 21 at the block level and the counting for Khera block would be held at Mata Sundri Public School, Fatehgarh Sahib and the results would be declared the same day. He also thanked the candidates and all political leaders for co-operating in maintaining law and order. |

Blood donors to be honoured
Patiala, May 19 Dr Kanchan Bhardwaj, professor and head of the Blood Bank, said star donors, repeated donors, female donors, couple donors, emergency donors, family donors would be honoured on this day. In star donor category, those male donors who have donated blood 10 or more times and those female donors who have donated five or more times would be honored. In addition, those male donors who had donated their blood three or more times during April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013 and female donors who had donated their blood two or more times during same period would also be honoured. She urged that donors to submit the copies of their certificates in blood bank by May 24. |

HMT employees not paid three months’ salaries
Kalka, May 19 The machine tools plant , which is going through sever financial crises these days , is also in dire need of special package for its survival. The tractor plant and machine tool unit of HMT is working under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, but the irony is that the government has extended retirement age of employees of tractor plant from 58 to 60 years, meanwhile, the employees of machine tools are being retired at the age of 58. Hindustan Machine Tools consists of tractor plant as well as machine tool plant. In 1963, one of the units of machine tool was established, whereas, the tractor plant was established in 1971. Shiwalik Vikas Manch, an NGO of Panchkula has sent a letter to Praphool kumar Mahant , the Central Minister of Heavy Industries and Manish Tiwari , Minister of Info mation of Broadcasting, who is also member of Cabinet Committee of Economic affairs, seeking revival package and release of pending salaries of three months and to fix same age of 60 years for the retirement of the employees of machine tools department of the company. |

Boys outshine girls in PSEB results
Fatehgarh Sahib, May 19 Harvel Singh, District Education Officer said that nine students stood in merit from the district and three are from different government schools. He congratulated the students for secured positions. On this occasion, Rajiv Dutta, president of the school and Ashok Sood, manager also congratulated parents, students and staff of the school. The president said that these students had created history as it was for the first time that three boys had been placed in the merit list in the same year. They said that students would be rewarded for their success. Ravinder Joshi, the principal of the school said that in the era of commercialisation of education, the school management provided quality education at very cheap rates and the staff worked with a mission. Missing groom’s body found
Chandigarh, May 19 The victim’s family suspected foul play. The family members said the victim, Naveen Kumar, a Sector 45 resident, could not have committed suicide. The body was sent to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for post-mortem today. Naveen went missing under mysterious circumstances, two days before his wedding, after he left his house on a motorcycle on May 10. Later, on May 12, the Punjab Police recovered his motorcycle near a canal in Ropar, following which his photographs were pasted along the canal to trace him. The police said a diver, on seeing the body floating in a canal near Tangori in Mohali district, informed the police, who informed the family members. Deceased’s brother, Praveen Kumar, said he identified his brother from the shoes and wrist bands he was wearing. While talking to the media at the Sector 16 hospital, Praveen said his brother could not have committed suicide. The post-mortem is to be conducted tomorrow. The police is awaiting its report. |

24-year-old youth ends life
Chandigarh, May 19 The deceased was employed in a factory in the Industrial Area. He got married around six months ago. His wife was staying with her parents at their Sector 19 residence for the last couple of days. Sudhir Kumar, a distant relative of the deceased, said: “Pardeep went to bring his wife back, but his in-laws insulted him and turned him away.” The police officials said they did not recover any suicide note from the deceased’s room. It was later that the family members claimed they had found a suicide note, the police said. The police has taken the suicide note in its custody. The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. |

Snatchers target three city residents within 24 hours
Chandigarh, May 19 In another complaint earlier, Rajinder Pal Kaur, a resident of Mani Majra, alleged that miscreants riding on an Activa scooter sped away after snatching her bag, containing a watch, debit card, some documents and Rs 2,000, from near her residence yesterday. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Maloya Colony, in his complaint to the police, stated that two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched his mobile phone near the market in the colony yesterday. A 23-year-old youth, a resident of Sector 25 here, has gone missing after he went out with a friend yesterday. The youth, Deep, has still not been traced by
the police. On the complaint of the youth’s mother, Jaswinder, a case of kidnapping under Section 365 of the IPC has been registered at the Chandi Mandir police station. According to the complainant, Deep went out with a friend, Desraj. When he did not return till the evening, she called on his mobile phone, but it was switched off. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ashwin Shenvi, said the police was carrying out the investigations. |

After electing to bat first, the Stadium XI team posted a total of 227 runs.The opening pair of Amit and Vishvas Bhalla scripted the team's win through a significant partnership of 157 runs for the first wicket. Amit scored 114 off 60 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes, while Vishvas scored 54 runs. Later, Jaskaran added 46 runs to the team's total. Chasing the target, the Warriors Club was bundled out for a paltry 73 runs. Vikas was the main scorer for his team with 23 runs. For the bowling side, Gourav Ghambhir claimed four wickets, whereas Aman Bharti scalped three wickets. In the second match, Himachal Club drubbed the AECC Club by 29 runs. FCI, HDFC Bank log wins in CII cricket cup
Chandigarh, May 19 In the first match, batting first, the FCI team scored 165 runs after losing 8 wickets. Rohit (41 off 23) and Kamal Thakur (32 off 21) were the main contributors while Amandeep Singh and Manpreet grabbed two wickets each. In reply, the rival team managed to score 136 runs in the allotted overs. Devan Arora (34 off 23) was the main scorer. Parneesh took 4 wickets by giving away 19 runs. In the second match, the team of the HDFC Bank defeated Quantum Solutions by 43 runs. The HDFC Bank team scored 200 runs. Gaurav Jaiswal scored 67 runs off 36 balls. New competitive format for junior-level cricket proposed
Chandigarh, May 19 During the meeting, the honorary secretary informed the members about the proposed Mullanpur stadium project. According to the office-bearers, the project has been approved by the Punjab Government and the PCA has also been given exemption from entertainment tax for 10 years for the new stadium. The association will also seek more concessions from the government for the acquisition of some left over parts in the area of the proposed site. It was also said that the PCA stadium had won the cash award for the best maintained ground. |
12-year-old city chess prodigy brings laurels
Chandigarh, May 19
She gained the honour with 50 ELO rating points and also bagged a cash prize of Rs 25,000 from the two tournaments. A student of Class VII, Sacred Heart Convent School, she has been winning laurels in various national and international competitions. In the NHPC International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, held earlier this week, she defeated defending champion Tushar Anand of Delhi. Throughout the tournament, she conceded just one game to Rakesh Jena of Orissa. With a score of 7.5 points, she earned the trophy. Later, in Ahmedabad, Tarini earned fame in the Brain Power U-2000 International Rating Tournament that concluded on Saturday. Tarini scored 7.5 points out of 11 games and defeated Pawan Wairagade from Maharashtra, Suhas B Asnodkar and Dhamesh Advani from Gujarat. She ended in drawn matches against Manush Shah of Gujarat, Saurabh Anand of Bihar and Sunny Renza from Maharashtra. “She is not making her own name but also making the city proud at various national and international tournaments.
