1 held on molestation charge:
The city police has registered a case against a person for forcing a girl to develop physical relations with him. The accused has been identified as Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Pakhowal road. The girl is a resident of Guru Gyan Vihar area.

Election rehearsal held
:
A rehearsal for the panchayat elections was held at Shivalik Public School today. District election officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said a total of 3,335 employees would be put on duty on May 19 for the elections. There will be 444 polling booths out of which 92 have been declared sensitive and 37 hypersensitive. He said the final election-related rehearsal would be held on May 15.

Woman dies of injuries:
An unidentified woman, who was critically assaulted by culprits on the National Highway-2 last night, succumbed to her injuries in a hospital this afternoon. Reports said she was found in the bushes in Sector 7 along the highway. There were five stab wounds on her abdomen and one on her hand. She was admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital. The Investigating Officer said the victim was in coma when admitted to the hospital. She died this afternoon.

Walk on pedestrian safety in Karnal:
Spreading awareness on pedestrian safety, a walk was organised during the second UN Global Road safety week from SD Model Senior Secondary School, Railway Road, to Committee Chowk here on Thursday. The rally was flagged off by Sushank Anand, SP, Karnal, who joined the walk. He said 32,000 persons were killed in road accidents every year. He urged the masses to value life and avoid taking vehicles in congested market areas.

Failure to trace girl protested:
Irate residents, along with members of the aggrieved family of Cheemnawas village, held a demonstration in front of the district secretariat here . They flayed the police for its lackadaisical approach in tracing seven-year old girl Parul, who had been kidnapped from the railway station here on May 4. Later, they presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, seeking the girl's speedy recovery.

BPL cardholders to get plots:
BPL cardholders, including women of Badwasni, Tihar Kalan, Bhainswan Khurd, Ratangarh, led by Zila Parishad member Sanjay Badwasnia submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Aggarwal here . Badwasnia said they were demanding the possession of 100 square yards plots and the DC assured them that it would be done by May 24.
