Hot and Haute
An Indian summer is something to write home about, the flowers are gorgeous and sunshine, beautiful. Just that the summer sunshine doesn’t do much to the wedding bling. Put together, they might make you want to blink and give it a miss. The “hottest” trends of wedding season become way too hot if the wedding finally happens in the summer.
And in case it’s not happening at a hill station, a tea-estate, a vineyard or the Himalayas...a summer wedding calls for a summer wardrobe.
Model fabric
“Georgette and chiffons are some of the only options when it comes to summer fabrics. When you want to make it formal, either go for summer fabrics or keep the work light. Anarkalis could be customised as per individual preferences,” Nivedita Sharma, of the brand Niveaz Ensemble, lists some of the options, for those that want to look like a wedding guest and still be season appropriate. She laughs, “But most of my customers are young women, who are more concerned about looking good, want to stand apart from the crowd and are not bothered about the season.”
Cut to size
In case, someone works out a May Day, the weather’s likely to weigh over the wedding. If you can’t structure the fabrics, then work on the silhouette. Keep it both formal and flowing. “Go for something you can breathe in. For instance pallazos and shararas, instead of the skin tight churidaars,” offers Mithi Brar, who runs a label called Aalna. She adds, “Georgettes and chiffons are the best bet during the summer. In any case, try and opt for pure fabrics rather than those that have a blend of synthetic material in them. “Thanks to Bollywood, shararas are back. Especially for mehendi ceremonies,” opines Nivedita. The flowing loose garment with a joint at the knee level makes a come back, after having spent years in hibernation. “Ideally, cotton is apt for the summer but nobody pictures pure cotton wear and wedding functions together. There’s this fabric called silk cotton that has sheen in it and looks formal enough,” Damini Anand, of Anand Design Studio and a pass-out of IIFT Mohali, shares. She adds, “Then there’s georgette and chiffon. One can get lehengas made with these fabrics and attach heavy borders to make it look formal. The work and detailing of summer formals are also very different. For summer we use a lot of pearls and light zardosi, whereas cooler climes call for gotta patti work.” Need we add that velvet is a big no and any other trend that brings memories of the winter back. “There has to be some element in the outfit that suggests of summer. It should ideally be the fabric you are wearing, but for some reason if it can’t be the fabric then the colour palette should stick to summer,” opines Shahana Bajaj, a Chandigarh-based designer. She adds, “If for some reason, the colour pallete also does not suggest of summer, then the cut and the neckline should be summer friendly. For instance it could be sleeveless.”
Colour palette
For those who want to be in sync with the season’s shades, there are all the hues of soft blue, pastels and white that summer has a copyright on. Opines Meethi Brar, “For the guests there are many options like powder pink, pastels and matte. Neon colours are really big this season.” All things bright and beautiful get a head start. Opines Nivedita, “Neon colours are really back in fashion. Florescent pinks, greens and orange are quite in.” If for some reason, bright is too much for the eye to take in at one go, there’s always the classic white to fall back upon.

Rock-solid steps
For some, dance is a perfect stress-buster. For others, it’s a way to express oneself. And what can beat good ol’ Rock and Roll? After all, there is more to Rock and Roll than just shaking a leg!
The Rock’n’Roll Federation of India (RRFI) along with JasKShan’s Dance Dacha Academy organises the third International Rock n’Roll Training Workshop at British School-44, where the focus is on the physical training and fitness through dance form. The workshop will conclude on May 12 with a competition among 44 students, a presentation of the trainers and an exclusive show from the Hungarian dancers—Miklos Horvath and Katalin Kis at St. Stephens School-45. The trio
Hailing from Hungary where Rock and Roll is used as a sport in schools, the six- time national champions, Miklos and Katalin hold the 3rd rank in Rock and Roll worldwide and 2nd in world master competition. With 25 years of experience, Katalin, who is now 40, judges contestants in reality TV shows and competitions. Miklos and Katalin have been partners for around 19 years. Miklos says, “We have performed in over 20 countries in three continents, we trust each other completely, so when I throw Katalin in the air she knows I will be able to catch her.” Konstantinos Koumaradios on the other hand doesn’t dance, but he builds the foundation for a dancer. He is an international fitness, body building and physical trainer which is the most crucial part for this dance form. Game plan
The trio also trains students throughout the world. “We would love to train more people. However, our main motive is to spread this dance form worldwide, so it can eventually become a part of the Olympics.” A dance form in Olympics, now that’s interesting! Miklos shares “Yes, this is the only dance form which includes three disciplines, Latin, standard and acrobatics, which makes it eligible to also be a full-fledged sport.” How is the response from India? He adds, “The people in India are enthusiastic.”

TRENDSETTER
Every person has a sense of style. Yet, there are only a few who'd attract the second glances, who have the power to make the camera go zoom on them. It could be the tousled hair or it could be torn jeans. Our this week's face in the crowd Nonie Singh, a Chandigarh-based tattoo artist, who believes in balancing the conventional with the contemporary.
Your sense of style is… I would describe it as funky and comfortable. It's very important for your sense of style to be your own and not imitated. Only then your style reflects your personality. Latest addition in the wardrobe… My latest addition in the wardrobe is an Ed Hardy tee and a pair of Levi's jeans. Brand freak or street smart? I prefer only branded clothes because they assure quality. Choose one— sporty, glamorous or chic Any day sporty. That's the kind of look that goes well with my body and state of mind. Your style icon … Saif Ali Khan. His style is original and his dressing sense is quite classy and easy going. Who's the worst dressed celebrity around? Abhishek Bachchan. Your individuality has to be reflected in your dressing sense. His dressing sense is so random. One fashion trend you don't understand… There are actually many. I don't understand the trend of putting diamonds on teeth. Then here are low-waist jeans that don't make any sense. Some even like to wear white coloured lenses; I think that's weird. Your take on accessories Well, I like to wear gold or silver chains. I don't like to be without my watch either. One thing that boosts your confidence Since I am a tattoo artist, my clients' satisfaction really boosts my confidence level. You would love to be
dressed up by…. Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani. They have redefined Indian fashion and made us proud of it.

Master Chef
Kebabs and seekhs are no longer a gourmet food. We can make some delicious seekhs with the all-purpose cheese, combining it with other ingredients and the resulting delicacy is light on the stomach and nutritious too. So, do try theses seekh kebabs.
Ingredients 5 finely chopped French beans 1 medium sized finely
hopped carrot ¾ cup green peas boiled and smashed ½ tsp shahi jeera 1 tsp chopped ginger 1 tsp chopped garlic 1 tsp green chilies chopped 1 medium sized potato
(boiled and mashed) 2 tsp pista flakes 2 tbsp processed cheese (grated) ½ tsp chaat masala ½ tsp cumin powder 1 tsp butter for glazing ½ tsp kasoori methi Salt to taste Method
Cooking tips: If you do not have a metal skewer or an oven, you can use a hot nonstick pan and use skewers made from bamboo sticks. The mixture should be firmly and evenly applied on the skewer or else it could slip. If the mixture is not too dry and you feel that you would not be able to firmly apply it over the skewer, try adding bread crumbs or roasted gram flour so that it absorbs the extra water. Win some, lose some
Director Zoya Akhtar had already become well known in Bollywood with her debut film Luck By Chance that was critically acclaimed and then Zindagi Na Milegi
Dobara. She is now preparing to launch a multi-starrer film. The rumour mill has been going strong about this upcoming project.
Reportedly, it is a family saga that will be somewhat autobiographical in nature. The story draws on the 'brother sister' dynamics that exist between Zoya and her brother Farhan Akhtar. The script has been written by Zoya and Reema Kagti. It was originally decided to cast Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles of the film. This was the first time that Kareena and Ranbir would play brother and sister on silver screen. Zoya was interested in capturing the dynamics between the two. But it seems we will have to wait longer to see the Kapoor cousins together in a film. Ranbir is very busy with his various other commitments. His films Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani and Besharam will be releasing shortly. He is signed up for Bombay Velvet by Anurag Kashyap. He is also committed to a biopic of Kishore Kumar and a film directed by Farhan Akhtar. It was becoming difficult to find dates in the midst of so many projects. However, Zoya is in no mood to wait for the top stars as her script is ready. As a result, it has probably been decided that she would cast Ranveer Singh in the role designated for Ranbir Kapoor. Ranveer was last seen in Band, Baaja, Baarat. His latest films pending release include Gundey and Lootera. The buzz is that Ranveer is quite excited to be sharing screen space with Kareena where he will appear in the role of the brother of Kareena. According to a source, "Ranveer missed out on working with Kareena in Ram Leela. This time he wants to make it work. Even if it means he does not get to play the romantic lead." Kareena will be paired opposite Hrithik in the film. This will be the first time after 2003 when Kareena and Hrithik will appear together since Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. It is reported that the pair is starring in Shuddhi by Karan Johar which is slated to be released next year.

The big switch
Arjun Kapoor will be seen in Aurangzeb next week which is his second movie within a year of his debut, Ishaqzaade. He talks about acting, stardom, love scenes and more. Privacy please
I am an actor not a star so I can go to public places. I have seen this profession from very close quarters and these are small prices to pay. I do not wish for people to intrude on my privacy when I am having a bad day or spending quality time with someone. I do not even like people clicking my pictures secretly. I like coming out and talking to people when I have work to talk about. Double role
Hrithik Roshan did a double role in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and that was his debut film but the two characters did not share screen space. In Aurangzeb, the characters confront each other. Aditya Chopra finalised me for this one after watching the rushes of Ishaqzaade. When a producer shows so much faith in you, it encourages confidence. So I went for these roles with conviction. Though I am from a filmy family, I am not a spoilt brat which is why I work hard. Love scenes
I am getting this tag of becoming an expert in love scenes. It is rubbish. I think anybody can pull off love scenes. When a guy is in love with a girl, he wants to kiss her and hold her. Emraan Hashmi busted the myth and taboo around love scenes. The audience today is more sensible and understands that these scenes are necessary and not done for sleaze and eyeballs. Like the love scenes in Ishaqzaade were integral to the plot. I do not think I deserve this tag, Ranbir Kapoor deserves it more. He has had a love scene in nearly all his movies. Star power
Ranbir Kapoor is the star of our generation. I am just an actor. RK has done amazing cinema in the past five years and paved the way for us to experiment with roles. He is our star leader. There is nothing he cannot do. We aspire to be like him. He has carved a place for himself in just five years. The euphoria and fan following around him is spectacular. Losing weight
I was okay being overweight because I was happy being behind the camera as I wanted to become a director. Salman Khan insisted that I become an actor and he motivated and guided me for the same. It took me five years to give my lifestyle a complete overhaul and I worked hard. Today, I can take off my shirt and give shots so the results are rewarding.

A smile goes a mile
Sonam Kapoor is someone who smiles often and a lot. She is known for her bright smile and effervescent disposition. She has recently signed up as the ambassador for a toothpaste brand. She talks about maintaining her healthy smile. Sweet smiles
I think Madhuri Dixit and my dad have the best smiles in Bollywood. I am biased towards my dad. I feel it is important to drink lots of water and brush your teeth at least twice a day. Too much brushing is not good as the enamel wears off. So it is a good idea to visit your dentist regularly. Right from heart
I am a very expressive, creative and talkative person. I love smiling and I love dancing. I have been learning classical dancing since I was four years old. I love Hindi film dances. I love seeing people like Birju Maharaj's dance because he performs from within and transforms himself into a beautiful woman dancer on stage. I feel people look beautiful when they express emotions from deep within. I am an ordinary looking girl but I smile with all my heart which lights up my face. Unique identity
Bollywood is a great platform for us to perform creatively whether through singing, acting or dancing. We are a very dramatic industry and have our unique identity because everybody is so different and because of songs and dance sequences and high emotional content in movies. We should be proud of everything that is originally and innately Bollywood.

A tightrope walk
Actress Kareena Kapoor got injured while shooting with Imran Khan for Punit Malhotra's forthcoming flick Gori Tere Pyar Mein on Wednesday. Even though Kareena had the option of opting for a body double, she reportedly insisted on performing the stunts.
The stunt involved her and Imran to walk on a tight rope, without any support. To not lose balance, she walked on the rope a tad too tightly. She ended up getting bruised by the thick jute rope. However, Kareena shot for the scene and completed it without much delay.

Dancing star
Faisal Khan who won the reality show Dance India Dance Li’l Masters in 2012 has now got a chance to play the role of a warrior. He couldn’t be happier. He talks about his new role and more. You are a dancer, how come you are acting now? I am a dancer but I was bitten by the acting bug long ago. I would act in plays in school. I went for the auditions and got selected. This was my first audition so I am very happy. What is the toughest part about playing a historical character such as Maharana Pratap? The chaste Hindi is tough. But this show is my big chance and I am giving it my best shot. I rehearsed a lot before the scenes. You have been learning sword fight and horse riding too? Yes both have been fun. I am learning how to use a sword as an expert but horse riding is most fun. I enjoy being on a horse. Maharana Pratap had his horse Chetak since child hood. As of now I have an adult sitting with me on a horse but I will ride a horse solo if I have to. How will you manage school and the shoot? Currently, my schools are closed for vacations, I am in the ninth standard so I guess I will manage school and shoot. I will study on the sets during break and work it out with my school. Whom do you enjoy shooting with? We have shot promos and few a scenes. I enjoy working with all of them Rajshri didi (Thakur) who plays my mother and also Aashka didi (Goradia), Shakti bhaiya (Anand).

To celebrate this special relationship of mother and child, Star Plus is coming up with a special show of Meri Maa where the small screen actors Karan Tacker, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Ravi Dubey, Rahul Mahajan, Gurmeet and Mouni Roy come together to salute the spirit of motherhood with their real moms. In this very special episode, Actor Karan Tacker gave a tribute to his mother by dedicating a special dance to her on the song Meri maa, pyaari maa. As all the actors recount their special stories about the relationship with their mothers, Ravi Dubey’s mother also shared her story about her son being naughty since childhood. She further added that Ravi used to hate drinking milk and used to throw all the milk in the washbasin. For the first time the mothers will also be seen walking the ramp and being part of a very unique fashion show with the models. Watch the actors dedicate their performance to their mothers in the Mothers Day special event of Meri Maa, Saturday, May 11 at 6pm only on Star Plus.
Ridheema to get spicy
Ridheema Tiwari has come a long way from playing the silent and suffering wife in Colors’ Rishton Se Badi Pratha and the dutiful wife and bahu in Star Plus’ Sasural Genda Phool. She later took up a negative role in Sony Entertainment Television’s Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage. Now she will be adding up ‘spice’ with her negative role in an upcoming show for Life OK, titled Jaan. Ridheema has been roped in to play the negative lead in the upcoming show. We hear that her role will be an interesting one, considering the kind of vamps we have seen on television today. When contacted, Ridheema told us, “Yes, I am part of Jaan. But I have got no brief on my role, as I have not started shooting for the show.” Actor Latesh Sharma and Jas Karan Singh will be joining the cast of the show as the best buddies of the male protagonist, played by Ayaz Ahmed.
Mother figure
During the auditions of India’s Dancing Superstar a lot of contestants came on the show only to perform in front of the judges. While most of them where happy to stand before the judges everyone had one common interest, which was to meet Geeta ma. Be it kids; college children or adults all addressed the talented choreographer as Geeta ma. In fact Ritesh also told Geeta Kapur that after Bharat ma, it is Geeta ma who has maximum number of children. Geeta was amused by his statement. She said, “It’s very touching when the audience and fans come up to me with so much love. I am sure soon I will become grandmother to their children.” Catch Geeta Kapur on India’s Dancing Superstar Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm only on Star plus!
