Chandigarh, May 6
Gayle storm hit the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali, which was packed to capacity during an Indian Premier League encounter between the hosts, Kings XI Punjab, and Royal Challengers Bangalore this evening.

Kings XI Punjab owner Preity Zinta congratulates David Miller for his match-winning performance.

Having started his innings on a slow note, Chris Gayle, the Caribbean batsman who has been making a mockery of bowlers throughout this season, scored 61 off 33, bolstered by three huge sixes and eight sweetly timed boundaries. As he prepared to face the first ball of the innings, a huge roar of cricket buffs welcomed him. A threat to Kings XI Punjab bowling line-up, he made everyone stand on their chairs to follow every shot coming off his bat.

“I came here only to see Chris Gayle play. It’s a dream come true. Being a diehard fan of Royal Challengers Bangalore, I bought two terrace block tickets and it was worth the money spent,” said Anjumik Chaudhary.

Another fan said, “Gayle’s presence on the ground was the best part of this encounter. He deserves all the applauses for being such a powerful batsman. He missed to score a century, but his innings of 61 runs was a real entertainer. RCB is a star-studded team, but Gayle is the one who hogs the limelight every time,” said Preeti Chauhan.

“Ethically, we should cheer for the home side, but when it comes to Gayle, we don’t mind supporting the visitors,” said a group of youngsters. “All the three sixes hit by him landed in the stands, and if he had stayed there for another couple of overs, he would have taken his individual score to 100,” they said.

Following Gayle’s path, Cheteshwar Pujara, too, entertained spectators with his knock of 51 form 48 deliveries. “Pujara seems to be a calm player like Rahul Dravid, but is quite aggressive. Unlike his test double hundred, he played some good knocks and also held the innings together. The team has achieved a decent total, thanks to a nice opening stand. When Kings XI Punjab come out to bat, it should turn into an exciting encounter,” said a fan.

Like every previous match involving Royal Challengers Bangalore, owner Vijay Mallaya and his son Sidharath Mallaya watched the match from the team's dugout. On the other side, actors Jimmy Shergil and Preity Zinta were seen cheering for the home side.

As soon as the RCB's innings came to an end, people started leaving the stadium. It seemed as if they were there to only watch the RCB players' batting.

David Miller of Kings XI Punjab, however, stole the show by helping the home side register win over the visitors. He scored a ton in only 38 balls, studded with seven sixes and eight boundaries
