THERE is a variety of apple grown in Southeast England which does not have the usual common apple fruity flavour but has an intense aromatic nutmeg-like spicy flavour. Experts have named it "Nutmeg Pippin". This is a late-season variety. The fruits are small and have an intricate network of bronze russetting. Nutmeg Pippin apple was spotted and recognised as a separate variety in 1920.
