40 goats found dead in temple
Kalka, April 30 As the news in this regard spread, people thronged in the temple and anguished over the death of the goats raised slogans against the officials of the Mansa Devi shrine board. They alleged that it happened due to inadequate arrangements. Sources added that the incident might have happened due to suffocation and starvation. OP

faith, the devotees offer goat and wine in the Kali mata temple after their wishes are fulfilled. |

Youth held on charge of raping minor
Dera Bassi, April 30 The police sources said that the accused has been identified as Santosh, alias Gopal, who hails from Madhya Pradesh had allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl on the night of April 27 at Dappar village. The family of the victim had been living here for the past some years and the accused was also living in the same house on rent since last month. Ravi Thapa, father of the victim, complained to the police that the accused raped his daughter on the night of April 27. But due to threat of the accused, the victim did not tell the incident to the family. The accused had allegedly taken the girl in his room when she had gone for bathroom at 11pm on the night of April 27 after which he raped her and threatened of dire consequences if she would tell anybody about the incident. The accused has been booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and the police has started the investigation. |

Girl, woman commit suicide
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 30 The police has also found a suicide note in which she stated that no one should be held responsible for her suicide.
She mentioned that she was taking the extreme step as she had continuously failed to clear her paper in the past three attempts. Meanwhile, a woman of Suhavi village committed suicide in her house by consuming some poisonous substance. The victim has been identified as Surinderpal Kaur.

Man held for abducting girl
Dera Bassi, April 30 Manpreet was sent to Patiala jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
The police had registered a case against him under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC, while the girl has been sent to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for medical examination.

Panchkula, April 30 The identification done by victims in the case served as major evidence against the accused. Kishore was arrested on September 6, 2012, by the Panchkula police for physically abusing two schoolchildren, residents of Sector 19, Abhaypur, and studying in Classes II and IV, on the pretext of giving them chocolates after their school got over. Kishore used to stand outside the school and lure children to his home, where he committed the crime. Before committing the crime, he used to show pornographic videos to the victims. Kishore, a widower, was residing alone in a house in Abhaypur. It was the school principal who informed the victims’ families when he saw an unidentified person taking them along. Kishore used to threaten the children that if they told anyone about the incident, he would kill them. |

Advocate accused of domestic violence
Chandigarh, April 30 She got in touch with advocate Arvind
Thakur, who told her that he would fight her case and take it to the National Human Rights Commission and also promised for an accommodation in city. The advocate gave her a flat to reside in Sector 38 and allegedly, started living with her. The girl further alleged that the advocate married her and later she got to know that he was already married. Thereafter, the advocate allegedly asked the woman to vacate her house, also harassed her and removed her belongings from the flat. she has also attached photographs of her with the advocate. The girl has given a separate complaint to the SSP alleging rape. When contacted advocate Arvind Thakur stated that all the allegations were baseless and that he did not even know any such girl. |

Thieves strike at gurdwara
Chandigarh, April 30 Vehicles stolen
As many as four motor vehicle thefts were reported in the city today. In the first incident, Deepak Dhingra of Sector 15 told the police that his motorcycle (no. CH-03R-6270) was stolen from outside his house. Vinod Kumar of Sector 22-C, meanwhile, reported that someone had stolen his motorcycle (no. CH-03K-4631) from outside his house day before yesterday. Harpreet Kaur of the SAS Nagar reported to the police that her Kinetic scooter (no. PB-65E-7073) was stolen from near Sector 40-C yesterday. Manohar Singh of Sector 9-D reported the theft of his Mahindra Bolero (no. CH-03Y-8330) from the parking lot of the Sector 35-B market.
Domestic help held
A domestic help was arrested for allegedly stealing a gold chain from the Sector 47 residence of one Sarika Sharma. Meanwhile, Dr NM Gupta, a resident of Sector 36-B, reported that someone had stolen two gas cylinders from outside his house. The police has registered a case.
Gold earrings snatched
A miscreant on a Kinetic Honda scooter allegedly snatched the gold earrings of a woman in Sector 41. The woman, Pushplata, was near her house when the incident took place. Another resident of Sector 41-B, Indrawati, too, alleged that a miscreant on a Kinetic Honda scooter snatched her gold earrings. |

Youth held for raping minor at Colony No. 5
Chandigarh, April 30 In a separate incident, an attempt was made to rape a minor girl in the same colony day before yesterday. The police said a 15-year-old girl alleged that her neighbour Dalip Kumar attempted to rape her. The police is yet to arrest the accused.
4 cases of crimes against women registered
The UT police registered as many as four separate cases of crimes against women in the past 24 hours. A resident of Bapu Dham colony, Parveen Bansal, was arrested for passing casteist remarks at a girl. A case was registered against an unidentified youth at the Sector 26 police station for passing lewd remarks at a woman. In another incident, a woman alleged yesterday a group of persons thrashed, molested and threatened her near Sector 31. In cases registered under the Dowry Act, two women accused their in-laws of torturing them for dowry. In the first incident, a woman alleged that her husband, Ajay Chabra of New Delhi, harassed her for dowry. In the other case, a city woman alleged that her husband, Sanjay Ahlawat, and her mother-in-law were harassing her. |

Pedestrian dies in accident
Chandigarh, April 30 The truck driver, Joginder Singh, of Himachal was arrested on the spot and the medical examination confirmed the presence of alcohol in his body. The accused was also booked under the charges of drunken driving along with death due to negligent driving. Police said both injured were rushed to GMSH-16 but doctors declared Jai Bhagwan brought dead. Sudhir Singh, while narrating the incident wais that driver tried to flee the spot but was nabbed. The body has been handed over to kin of Jai Bhagwan after postmortem examination in GMSH-16. |

8 hurt in accident
Chandigarh, April 30 They were returning from the wedding of Dharamvir's daughter.
Two of the injured, Sanjay Narang and his eight-month-old daughter Jiya, were admitted to the PGI. Dharamvir, who was driving the car, reportedly dozed off, leading to the accident. Bonnet of the car got completely damaged. The roundabout was also damaged due to the impact. Dharamvir runs a hardware shop in Sector 15. |

In rowing, ITBP won six gold and one silver, while CRPF bagged two gold, two silver, two bronze and the team of Punjab Police won four silver and three bronze. In kayaking event ITBP won five gold, three Bronze while the team of CRPF and BSF won one gold, three silver and one bronze each. The Uttarakhand Police finished third with 1 gold, one silver and two bronze. In Canoeing, BSF won six gold , two silver. In the demo-skill work, ITBP’s Gyarshi lal, an international rower, claimed gold medal by finishing the patch of 100m single scull event in 4:10:70 seconds, whereas constable Nitish Kumar and Gayarshi Lal finished with a time of 3:36:50 seconds to win the double scull event of 1000m. SN Vashistha, Director General, Haryana Police awarded the winners. The championship was organised in three categories including rowing, canoeing and kayaking. Chandigarh, April 30 In today's rallies at CLTA courts, Sector 10, top seed Yuki Bhambri had an easy day after he defeated Abhijeet Tiwari in straight sets 6-3 and 6-1. The eighth seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan, fought hard to register win over Vignesh Veerabadran. Ranjeet won at 6-3, 3-6 and 6-0. In another match Vishnu Vardhan had a tough first set against Vignesh Peranamallur. Vishnu bagged the first set in tie breaker by 7-6 (4) and then won the second set by at 6-3.
