Cotton worth lakhs gutted
Ambala, April 25 According to information, some of the residents of the nearby area noticed smoke and flames coming out from the godown. They immediately informed the owner of the godown Surjit Singh. Around half a dozen of fire tenders were pressed into service to control the fire. The fire was brought under control after struggling for five hours. The fire tenders of the Ambala Cantonment were also summoned. Owner of the godown said the loss was of around Rs 10 lakh. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained so far. Sources said the possibility of the short-circuit could not be ruled out. |

The officials do not bother and heed to the request of commission agents to clear their bills in spite of the fact that the top officials of Govt of India and State Govt have toured all the grain markets of the district and expressed concern over non-payment to farmers and slow pace of lifting of procured wheat, alleged Rajesh, state press secy, Arhtiya Association. He said PK Jha, Union additional secy and AS Pannu Divisonal Commissioner, Patiala, had visited various grain markets and directed the officials to speed up lifting process and to immediately make payment to farmers. He said lifting of procured wheat has not yet started properly resulting in heaps of procured wheat bags in the grain markets causing great inconvenience to farmers and commission agents. The Swipe Card Scheme launched by State Government's procurement Agency PUNGRAIN to make online payment to the commission agents and farmers has failed miserably as cards allotted to commission agents are not being assessed by the machines moreover, the staff is not properly trained to handle these machines. He said Adesh Partap Kairon, Food & Civil Supply Minister, had promised to clear the bills of the Commission and labour charges along with the bills of procured wheat. But unfortunately, none of the govt procurement agencies is clearing their procurement bills what to talk about these bills.

Four drug peddlers held
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 25 SSP HS Mann said the Mandi Gobindgarh police, during a checking signalled a pillion rider to stop for checking. But
he fled away and after some chase, he was over powered by the police and during checking, the police recovered 100 gm opium from his possession. The accused was identified as Balwant Singh, a resident of
Talania. The Mulepur police arrested Jagtar Singh, alias Jaggi, a resident of Bassi Pathana and recovered five gm of smack and 260 gm narcotics powder from his possession. The police also arrested Harpreet Singh, a resident of Bassi Pathana, and recovered 960 gm heroin from his possession. The Badali Ala Singh police arrested one Jagjeet Singh, alias Jaggi, a resident of Bassi Pathana and recovered 12 bottles of whisky meant for sale in Chandigarh. Senior Superintendent of Police said all the drug peddlers have been booked under the NDPS Act and the police has started the investigation. |

One booked for selling plots illegally
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 25 A cases has been registered under Sections 36(1) 36(3) of the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act & 420 of the IPC on the complaint of Darshan Lal, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh. SSP, HS Mann, said the district police received a complaint from Darshan alleging that Kuljeet sold the plots by laying out an illegal colony. He said after conducting an enquiry a case was registered.

Chandigarh, April 25 The cooler was purchased in March, 2011. The complainant requested Everon Electronics, based in Industrial Area, Phase II, to provide a bill. However, Everon Electronics (the opposite party) did not issue the bill. “The allegations made in the complaint have gone un-rebutted and un-controverted as nobody appeared on behalf of the opposite party. The opposite party overcharged without issuing a bill despite repeated requests,” read the judgment issued by the UT consumer disputes redressal forum. The UT consumer disputes redressal forum has directed the shop owner to return the overcharged amount and also pay Rs 2,000 as compensation for mental agony. |

Cab driver drugged, robbed of vehicle
Chandigarh, April 25 The police said Yogesh Kumar, hailing from Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), who worked as a driver, came to Chandigarh from Gurgaon. He dropped two persons near the Airtel office at the IT Park. He was allegedly approached by two persons who requested him to drop them off a few metres ahead. As Kumar moved ahead with the two in his car, a third person stopped them and offered sweets. The two miscreants took the sweets but Kumar declined. The stranger insisted that the sweets were offerings made at a temple, following which Kumar consumed the sweets. Kumar told the police that he was not aware of what happened after that. When he came to his senses, he was in fields near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Kumar, in his complaint, alleged the three took away his car (no. HR-55PT-5353). The police has registered a case under Sections 328 and 382 of the IPC at the Mani Majra police station. |

Two arrested for thrashing man
Panchkula, April 25 The duo, after thrashing and threatening the victim, Davinder with a gun near Majri flyover, were fleeing in their car towards Shimla, when the police intercepted in Pinjore and arrested them. Giving details, Panchkula Commissioner, Rajbir Deswal, said the altercation ensued between both the parties over a minor issue of overtaking. The family of Gurnam Singh, his wife and a minor daughter was with the accused when the incident occurred. “Davinder was driving his pick-up van when the duo, who was in Fiat Punto car, stopped him and started thrashing him for not giving them side to cross. Hardeep Singh took out his pistol and brandished it to threaten the victim. After that they fled from the scene. We intercepted their car near Pinjore and arrested them,” said Rajbir Deswal. The police said a revolver and four live cartridges have been recovered the accused. A case under Sections 279, 336, 323, 506, of the IPC and Sections 27, 56, 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Chandimandir police station. |
