SAI struggles to maintain old records
Deepankar Sharda
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 23
The Regional North-Centre of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Chandigarh, is struggling hard to keep the old records of the department, due to inadequate space in the office, here. In order to keep the records safe, the authorities have tied all the files, registers, handbooks and collected then sacks. As a result of it, a pile up of sacks containing these records has been kept under the aisle of the SAI department.

Ironically, the Sports Complex, Sector 42, has been facing an acute problem of space since long. For all the official works, the staff is using only five rooms including a room allotted to the director. Notably, this regional centre deals with the SAI's sports activity of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh and some parts of Punjab.

An official on the basis of anonymity also revealed that the records, till date, were lying inside the garage of the regional director's residence. "The records were brought here and most of them were related to the Sector 18 sports hostel, which was shut down long time. These were kept in a garage at director's residence and were now shifted here. But even here, we are facing the problem of space. It has become difficult to keep these heavy bundles. We have no other option but to keep these sacks under cemented roof of the stadium", said the official.

Another official, asking anonymity mentioned, "The department is already facing so much of problem and in summers the situation becomes worst. We cannot keep these records in the corridors under this cemented roof for so long as the rain will damage all these bundles and sacks", said the official.

On other hand, Susmita R Jyotsi Director-Regional centre, added, "These are old records and were shifted here recently. Now all these bundles will be taken care of as per official procedure"

IPL season six
Mohali stadium eagerly awaits Gaylestorm
Deepankar Sharda
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 23
When he bats, fielders turn spectators and spectators becomes fielders. What is believed to be the most disastrous innings of the T20 cricket format belongs to none other than the game changer himself, Chris Gayle. The 40,000 capacity bearer, M Chinnaswamy stadium of Banglore was hit by the Gaylestorm, as the spectators witnessed the most amazing innings of the century by this former West-Indian opener against Pune Warriors, today.

Chris Gayle, played an unbeaten knock of 175-runs, studded with 13 boundaries and 17 sixes, highest by any batsman in an innings, off just 65-balls with mere 7 dot balls at a strike rate of 265.15.

Interestingly his unforgettable innings has made the local fans more impatient than ever. They are now eagerly waiting for him to play against Kings XI Punjab team on May 6, at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium at Mohali.

"He is a run machine. He treats world class bowlers as some local -bowler and hits ruthlessly. I wish he plays the same way at Mohali, as he did today and thoroughly entertains the crowd with a huge knock. I have booked my ticket for the match. I had a talk with my friends today and even though they are from outstations, they have asked me to book their tickets. Despite the fact that May 6 is a Monday, PCA is going to be jam-packed", said Manoj Uniyal.

Another fan added, " Me and my friends were celebrating my birthday when we witness his phenomenal innings. It was double delight for all of us. He targeted every corner of the ground. We were amazed with his ability to hit the ball. Notably, if he can hit the longest sixer of the IPL T20 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, he can easily hit the ball out of the stadium at PCA, Mohali at Mohali", said Rahul Bhagta.

In his last year's innings against the home side of Kings XI Punjab team, at Mohali, he had scored 87-runs off 56 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes. Resultantly, the Royal Challengers Bangalore team had registered a 5-wicket win against the home side at PCA last year.

"Today, it was his day and he is unstoppable, when he is in full flow. He entertained the cricketing buffs with rocketing shots. Who knows this was his best innings or the best is yet to come, but no one can expect more than what he did today. He would have scored even 200-runs, if he had just couple of more overs left. Last year, he along with AB Viliers guided the team to victory here at the PCA Stadium. He is dangerous yet a sensible cricketer, who knows the value of his wicket", said Ankit Gupta.
