Face the boss!
This is one advice that has travelled through the centuries, every single individual working in any organisation has either heard it from the old workers, read it somewhere or it has been whispered into their ear before they have made presentations or attended board meetings —the boss is always right!
Now, imagine if you happen to get a Facebook friend request from the same boss? It is even scary if you see your boss in your friend’s mutual circle—will you or won’t you send a friend request? Social networking sites have brought friends closer, but is it still a safe place to befriend your bosses, share pictures and post tags? People in and around Chandigarh, who believe that ‘the boss knows it all’ share their dilemmas and how they handled it. We also check out with some of the bosses whether they accept a colleague’s request? Never ever “No way, I would not do that,” Snehal Bakshi, assistant marketing manager in Mohali, dreads the idea. “A boss is a boss; I wouldn’t want to take the liberty of sending a friend request on Facebook or any other social networking site. I believe in keeping my personal and professional life separate. I wouldn’t want my boss to see whom I am friends with, what I talk on FB…it can be embarrassing,” she says. For most workers, this is something not done. Dalvir Singh Sandhu, an accountant with a private firm that deals in batteries, can’t afford to be friends with the boss. “This would mean I have to be extra careful on what am I writing, the information I am sharing etc. Sometimes, we end up sharing some ‘jokes’ from the office and on the boss too; I wouldn’t send a friend request to my boss in a million years.” No big deal If the boss is right, who says you can’t be friends on Facebook? The situation still depends on what kind of a person your boss is and how he or she looks at it. Param Singh Dhanoa, a call centre employee from Ludhiana, is friends with his group head, manager and general manager. “All my bosses are like friends; the first time I got a friend request, I was skeptical whether or not it will be accepted.” Param was delighted to be added to his manager’s friend list. “I share my personal information with him, tag his pictures, but yes I am careful when I am writing something on the wall,” he grins. Says the boss Has anyone asked the one sitting on the high chair? Would they like their colleagues or juniors to be in their list of friends on a social networking site or just keep distance? Govind Pandey, executive vice-president North Pool, HDFC, likes to keep this equation simple. “Social networking sites have a personal touch; I would be very choosy about adding friends. At the same time, there is a fine line that one treads as far as work is concerned, so I would want to keep it that way.” jasmine@tribunemail.com

The comic angle widens
There is no denying the fact that Punjabi cinema is moving ahead with great vigour, courtesy its comic appeal. The industry continues to exploit this genre while keeping the market at minimum risk. The star cast of Daddy Cool Munde Fool, an upcoming Punjabi movie, gathered at KC Regency in Chandigarh on Monday, to promote
their film. An interesting banter ensued.
While Amrinder Gill, Harish Verma, Yuvika Chaudhary and Ihana Dhilon are in the lead roles, the film has been produced under the banner of Speed Records, which has earlier produced Carry on Jatta and Jatt and Juliet. “This is essentially a comedy film that revolves around the romantic interests of the father and sons. Jaswinder Bhalla is essaying the role of the father who fancies his youth, which he considers has not faded away,” says Amrinder while adding, “His sons, Money (Amrinder Gill) and Gunny (Harish Verma), are buffoons of the first order, who pursue two sisters while their father romances the mother of those girls. Every scene of the film evokes a burst of laughter. Also, this is
a family movie so there’s a joyride for each and everyone.” When questioned about working in serious films, which are issue-centric, Satwinder Singh, managing director of Speed Records, recollects the Punjabi art film Anne Ghore Da Daan, which won a national award, “It’s a pity that we are playing safe while exploiting the comedy genre that works well with the Punjabi audience, in India and abroad, but there are absolutely no distributors for films
that are based on social issues or serious concerns.” His argument is backed by Harish Verma, another lead, “At this time, we are only decorating the plot of launching Punjabi films and garnering a large audience, who take a liking to Punjabi cinema for the bare minimum that it has to offer. We will surely launch serious films once we have more audience and a stable market to generate revenue for the same,” he says. Directed by Simerjit Singh, the movie targets the youth while roping them into being the potential audience. Also, the makers of the films have released over 125 prints across the nation. While waxing eloquent about the subject of the film, Amrinder Gill makes an honest attempt to justify the music. He maintains that the music of the film is youthful and infused with the element of modernisation that is essential for its commercial success. "The music of the film has been given by Dr Zeus and I have sung as many as three songs, including Gabru Da Jee, Soniye and Paware. Also, Bilal Saeed has sung two songs that are titled, Tauba Tauba and Raatan Chitiyan," says Amrinder. He has more to add, "Each song has a different perspective, philosophy and a feel to it. For instance, the title song, Daddy Cool Munde Fool, is a peppy rap sang that has been sung by Aman Sarang while Dr Zeus has contributed to the rap. Also, Jassi Gill has sung another track called classmate and I am really
happy to the Punjabi masses taking a liking to these songs." The Daddy Cool Munde Fool has been produced by KG Production, Royal Entertainment and Celluloid Entertainment. amarjot@tribunemail.com

Far from the madding crowd
There can never be enough footprints on a place. You can be there, repeat that but never get done with it. If not the hills, then the heritage; it’s either the spas or the wildlife, just as you dig deeper, there’s more to explore. “Even the most clichéd and done-to-death tourist places have an unexplored side to them,” travel author Puneetinder Kaur Sidhu, plays a travel guide already, much before the holiday season kicks in.
“Even if you are travelling to clichéd and common places, try and explore them. The hinterlands are now really opening up. People should experience home stays because that is a direct way of getting in touch with people, local flavours and culture.” As for the lesser known destinations within India, she adds, “There are Kausani hills near Almora, Pangi valley near Rohtang Pass and Bharmour area near Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh.” Meanwhile, in collaboration with Lonely Planet, she’s out with two travel guides – Short Escapes From Delhi and the other that tells you all about wildlife, heritage, outdoor, spas, hotels and treks titled Short Escapes from Bengaluru. The two destinations further lead you to places. “Delhi was the first project that I worked upon and it was something I had myself experienced before.” She adds, “The Chambal safari near Delhi was quite an experience. It’s a lodge; a wildlife property that really takes you away from urban madness.” For the uninitiated, there are as many as twenty treks and twenty-five spa options away from Bengaluru. “The Kabini backwaters are quite an experience.” Coming up are two more guides that will keep her near the Himalayas.“We are enlisting the top fifty hill destinations of India and also profiling the iconic getaways of North India.” There’s only so much as you can do with North India. She opines, “I think Punjabis should really start exploring the concept of farm tourism. There’s one Citrus County at Hoshiarpur that meets a traveller’s experience and expectations to some extent.” She adds, “That’s the only option we have; we haven’t been endowed with natural resources like beaches and backwaters.” The mustard fields need to call out a little louder! manpriya@tribunemail.com

Par Excellence Jesse Grewal Getting into a good posture and then maintaining it is a critical element of a sound swing. The position of the centre of the body or the centre of rotation during the swing is what creates a repeatable action and consistent shots. In a good athletic posture the core or abdominal muscles are triggered as well as the glutes. In a neutral posture (picture 3) we bend forward or hinge from the hip joint and this pushes the glutes back automatically to create a balanced position. The spine maintains the position it is in when you are erect and relaxed. In an 'S' posture (picture 1) the lower back is arched excessively by sticking the butt outwards. This can also been checked by the tilt of the belt. In the 'S' posture the belt buckle points a lot downwards. This excessive arching puts a lot of stress on the lower back muscles and also makes the abdominal muscles relax or get loose. This can lead to a reverse spine angle and is a major cause of lower back pain. In a C posture (picture 2) the shoulders are slumped forward and there is a rounding of the back all the way from the neck to the tail bone. The belt does not point downwards at all and is horizontal. This severely limits the ability of the spine to rotate. If the player fails to keep the backswing short he will not be able to maintain his posture through the swing. In a neutral posture the belt points slightly downwards. Some golfers get into a 'S' posture deliberately thinking that this is the correct way. I have seen many golfers misunderstand and think that the 'S' posture is the correct or neutral posture. A neutral posture is between the S and C posture. If a golfer is not able to find either the S or C posture they will not be able to find a neutral posture. This is due to an imbalance of muscles. In the S posture the hip flexors are tight and the abdominals and glutes are weak. In the C posture the thoracic spine or upper back is not able to bend backwards. To improve the posture, do the cat-camel exercise. Get onto all fours on a mat and arch your spine downwards from the lower back (picture 4). This is the cat position. From here arch the back upwards and create a hump with the back like a camel (picture 5). From this return to the neutral spine position (picture 6) which would be a relatively flat back. Repeat this movement from cat to camel to neutral position at least 10 times. This will help you get into a good posture before the golf swing. To find a good posture go first to the 'S' posture in an address position, then go to the 'C' posture and then find the neutral posture. Always do it in this order as this keeps the abdominal or core muscles triggered. (Grewal has coached several national champions and professionals apart from being coach of the Indian golf team for the Eisenhower Cup (World Cup) in 2008. He is currently the Director of National Golf Academy of India and CGA Hero Honda Golf Academy. If you have any queries get in touch with him at parexcellence@tribunemail.com) |

Hair they come!
The World Health Day marked a special occasion for City Beautiful. Why? The answer is simple. People from across the globe have declared the city as the Capital of Medical Tourism in Hair Transplant.
Cosmetic surgeon Dr Tejinder Bhatti believes that across the globe, be it UK, USA, UAE, South Africa, Europe or Russia, people cannot stand baldness. "It is a matter of embarrassment for them and they need to set it right." Reid Crowley from Darling Buds, London Centre, says, "Chandigarh offers a perfect deal as far as the cost and acceptability is concerned." In 2012, Dr Bhatti Hair Transplant Clinic Darling Buds in Sector 32 treated as many as 400 patients of alopecia with FUE Technique. Out of them, 30 per cent are foreigners and the rest are NRIs. Reid Crowley adds, "In UK, the treatment of baldness costs around 25-30 thousand pounds, but in Chandigarh the complete package, which includes visiting India, treatment, post treatment care, costs less than a fifth of the total cost in UK." Crowley is not alone. Says Paul Jenkins from South America, "No doubt there are advanced techniques in America, but the results are better here in Chandigarh. Cost obviously does matter, but here it is quite affordable." Paul Jenkins shares his opinion, "It is easy for patients to come to India. We get the best here and it is an English-speaking country, so it becomes easier for us. The cost here is like a complete holiday package." — TNS

Talk Dr Virendar Sarwal Heart is the most important organ of the body. Adding life to heart means adding years to life. To add life to your heart, there is an age-by-age guide, which can help in bringing small changes but with big results. In your 20s Drink water: Coming out of your teens, you may regularly drink soda, sports drinks or big glasses of juice. Switching at least one or two of these drinks a day for water will not only save you money, it may also save your heart. Find a better stress reliever: Now is the time to switch your bad habits to good ones. If you started smoking cigarettes as a way to fit in and look cool in your teens and in your 20s you're doing it to reduce stress, stopping smoking is the number one thing you can do for your heart. People who smoke in their 20s and continue for the rest of their lives die on average 12 to 14 years younger than non-smokers. Learn your family history: Fill in the gaps on your family health tree. Talk to your parents and other relatives to find out what medical conditions run in your family. In your 30s Set post-pregnancy goals These are prime weight-gaining years, especially if you are experiencing pregnancies. Women get into a vicious cycle. They'll have a baby, gain 40 pounds and lose five. They'll have another baby, gain 40 pounds and lose 10, and then by the end of their 30s, they turn around and they've gained 90 pounds. Do what you love Whatever activity makes you feel really good inside, make sure you do it for at least 15 or 20 minutes every day. Know your numbers By now you should be familiar with your "three Bs" - your body mass index, blood pressure and blood cholesterol. In your 40s Weight train For women, the 40s are when your body starts losing a lot of its lean muscle tissue and metabolism slows, making you more likely to gain weight. Nurture your relationships You realise how important relationships become in helping you get through difficult times and in helping encourage you to make healthy choices in your life. If you haven't already done it, now is the time to create and nurture that network of support around you. In your 50s Rethink when you eat The often-repeated advice to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper is especially true as you age into your 50s and beyond. Volunteer your time In your 20s and 30s, there are a lot to be excited about--marriage, babies and career. By the time you reach your 50s, those big life events may be in your past, and you may instead be facing an empty nest, parents who are dying or already gone and the denouement of your career. Volunteering your time for a cause is a great way to bring more positives into your life. Get screened The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends a bone mineral density test after 50 if you have risk factors such as being menopausal or osteoporosis. (Dr Sarwal is a cardiologist) |

Chef Kandla Nijhowne "Why did the tomatoes blush?" Pat comes the answer, "Because they saw the salad dressing!" As teenagers we would go giggly over this riddle! The play on words here amuses me still! Have you noticed how the tomatoes at this time of the year are so deeply red and healthy looking? They're almost begging to be taken home in our baskets. We usually cook the chopped ones into our traditional curries or serve them fresh as salad. Tomatoes are best used with minimal cooking. They are easily available, affordable, natural and nutritious. So look no further dear readers! Give your family a vitamin-packed drink which is freshly made and devoid of commercial additives. Trust me, the carton off the supermarket rack is not so superb after all.
Spicy tomato drink
Method Note: This prepared drink can be frozen for several weeks when transferred into a glass jar. Avoid freezing in a pearl-pet. It also morphs beautifully into a hot soup. Simply saute some garlic and add the tomato juice. Simmer and thicken with cornflour according to your preference. (Nijhowne is a Chandigarh-based culinary expert) |

Bag the best
A woman's most treasured companion is her handbag - be it the regular dual-strap tote bag or the crescent hobo bag or even the formal boxy style as well as the satchels...you name an occasion and there is a handbag to complement the outfit and accentuate the style. Here's a look at what is in this season.
Vibrant mode Brighten up the summer by experimenting with the effulgent hues. Perky colours such as orange, green, pink, yellow and all the bright shades are a first preference amongst fashionistas. Ditch the stereotypical blacks and browns, and trot out an abstract look to augment the style quotient. "For that scintillating touch, deck in your apparel with colourful handbags especially fluorescent shades. Try neon to create that dazzling touch," says Gunjan Nagpal, a Chandigarh-based designer. The younger brigade can add a zing to their wardrobe by going the unusual way. Want that deviant look? Match your totes with accessories or shoes and you will definitely make heads turn!
Ethnic touch "With block printing being used extensively in fashion circuits, bags with block prints and Zari work are an ideal fusion of traditional and modern," says Bhavneet Kaur Ahuja, Chandigarh-based designer, with label BK.

star track Pop star Britney Spears is reportedly planning to have her third child with boyfriend David Lucado. The 31-year-old, who split from her fiance Jason Trawick in January, recently started dating Lucado and has been spotted with him in public on various occasions. It is rumoured that Spears called off the engagement with Trawick because the couple disagreed over having children. Spears is said to be on the verge of signing a deal for a residency at Las Vegas’s Planet Hollywood resort and is planning to have the baby shortly after that. “Britney has been talking about her hopes to have a baby when her Vegas residency ends. They want David to be the stay-at-home dad while she’s performing, and says he can’t wait to be hands-on. “Britney’s in the best shape she’s been in for years. Being with David has really inspired her. He makes her really happy and she wants to look sexy for him,” a source said. Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise has revealed that a fifth Mission: Impossible film is in the works. Cruise confirmed the planned sequel during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
He replied when asked about the series: “I am working on the story.” However, he declined to give any more details. Cruise had said in October that he would be keen to make another Mission: Impossible film. “I started Mission: Impossible hoping I could make many of them. It’s a character that I can grow with. At that time it was the most expensive film in the history of Paramount Pictures, and the first film I was producing. “It’s been pretty exciting. Seeing an audience respond… to have that experience is really wonderful. I’ll make a bunch of those. I’ll make as many as people want to see... because they’re very challenging, and so much fun to make,” he had said. The actor also said that he “still felt good” about doing action roles, despite turning 50 last year. The last Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol released in 2011. —

My wife never gets insecure: Emraan
He has romanced several actresses on screen and the ‘serial kisser’ tag doesn’t seem to leave him. But Emraan Hashmi, who now shares screen space with three heroines in Ek Thi Daayan, says he is at peace in his personal life because his wife is not insecure about their relationship.
“My wife never gets insecure. After 30 films, every film has something or the other. She has her head over her shoulders, otherwise she would have left me a long time ago. She has a very mature way of looking at things,” Emraan said. Emraan married Parveen Shahani in 2006. They have a son named Ayaan. In his decade-long career, the actor has locked lips in films like Murder, Zeher, Aksar, Gangster—A Love Story, Crook, The Dirty Picture and Raaz 3. But he believes intimacy on screen was a big thing only in his initial few years. “I guess that (serial kisser) is just a saleable term for films and the media. For me, it has been important to play different characters and films. People focused on the intimacy on screen, which I found very funny. I continued to do bold characters and everyone is doing it now; so now people can digest it. That was not the case with my films,” he said. Having done different films like Shangai, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and The Dirty Picture, Emraan said it is gratifying to receive interesting scripts, which have a certain scope of risk. And that’s coincidentally what he wants! “They are coming to me now. I am getting scripts which I always wanted to do. They are interesting scripts and ideas with great characters. I always wanted to do films which were risky,” he said. “There is a change in cinema and I like to be a part of that change. I like to take up films which are new, conceptually and visually,” he added. In his filmography, Emraan has a good mix of films which have pleased either the audiences or the critics and some which have appealed to both. However, Emraan is clear that he would prefer box-office numbers rather than critical acclaim. “I have had films which have been panned by the critics, which have done well. Certain films need to be critically acclaimed and you make those for the critics, like Shanghai. But there are some films which don’t go down well with the critics. You can’t please everyone. If there is an option, I will go for the box office,” he said. That’s what he hopes for with his new film Ek Thi Daayan, in which he plays a magician, and stars alongside acclaimed actresses like Kalki Koechlin, Konkona Sen Sharma and Huma Qureshi. Directed by Kannan Iyer and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj, the movie releases on April 19. — IANS

Sunny side up!
Actor Sunny Deol, who is gearing up to flaunt his trademark muscle power with Ghayal Returns, wants to bring back iconic characters of the 80s.
“I remember when we were doing Ghayal we were thinking why can’t we bring back characters that were liked. I wanted those iconic and legendary characters and films to come back. “And now that’s happening. Also as a cinegoer, I would love to see the character come again in another film and take me for another (fun) ride,” Sunny said. Now, the 56-year-old is excited about the sequel of his 1990 blockbuster Ghayal, where he played a boxer with Meenakshi Sheshadri as his female lead. He will begin shooting for the film towards the end of the year and it will release in June next year. Ask him which films or characters he would like to reprise, he says, “I really don’t know. We can’t do it with every film. But there are couple of films like Ghayal and others but these films are legendary. And to take them forward is difficult.” Meanwhile, the actor will be seen in Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, a sequel of 2011 comedy film of the same name. The film starring Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby in the lead was a hit among the audience. “When we were making Yamla Pagla Deewana we were sure it will turn out to be a good film. But we did not expect that people will like it so much. But we had thought if this film will do well then we will surely make part two,” Sunny said. Now, considering that the sequel is ready for release, the makers feel there was responsibility on them to make a good film so that the fans enjoy it. “Definitely we are concerned, bothered as it is an in house thing, hoping it will be liked by people, and the product stands good,” he said. —PTI
Michael Jackson sensed death: Dermatologist
Late legendary singer Michael Jackson had a faint idea about his end, says his dermatologist Jason Pfeiffer.

He reportedly died due to an overdose of Propofol. “The last time I saw him, he ways saying his goodbyes to everyone in the office,” Pfeiffer said. “It was like he knew he was never coming back, and he would often say he thought he was going to be shot on stage,” he added.
